Chapter 12
The room suddenly went quiet, so quiet that Kaley could hear the sound of Brett ficking his cigarette ashes Bits of ash fell from his fingertips like tiny fireworks Kaley rarely saw Brett smoking or to be exact. Brett rarely smoked in front of her because of her poor health”
A feeling of unease suddenly rose in Kaley’s heart. She was happy today because she accidentally saw a text message on Brett’s phone last night
Izabells was going to divorce Brett
Kaley knew that Brett had gone to see trabella this morning. She thought he couldn’t wait to get divorced, but he looked gloomy now, which was not what she had expected. “Brett, it’s time for dinner Kaley tried to cheer up and told herself not to be afraid Brett had loved her for so many years, and Izabella’s arrogant and domineering manner
couldn’t take him away
Brett came to his senses, extinguished the cigarette in his hand, and looked at the dishes that Kaley had prepared for dinner.
In a short time, she had cooked three dishes and a soup there were meat and also vegetables, which looked pretty good However, it was still not as good as Izabella’s cooking
Why did he think of that woman again..? Brett clenched his teeth and squeezed out the images in his head.
Kaley sal across him, holding her bowl and taking small bites of her meal. She glanced at him from time to time, and several times she mumbled her lips trying to say something but in the end, she couldn’t say it
She was worried and scared. If she asked something and the result was different from what she had expected, she would be disappointed.
Kaley was a timid woman with all her ambition focused on Brett. The only thing she wanted was Brett marrying her.
Brett was absent–minded today, even during dinner. Kaley caught him zoning out several times and finally she couldn’t help but ask, “Brett, how did it go with Izabella today?”
This handsome man had a pair of beautiful hands, and his dining movements were incredibly elegant. Hearing Kaley’s question, Brett paused slightly, “What do you mean?”
Kaley bit her lower lip softly, hesitatingly said “About your divorce with Izabella today.”
As soon as she finished speaking, she felt the man’s gaze before her turn ice–cold. Kaley couldn’t help but shiver, her eyes filled with fear
As if sensing her fear, Brett’s expression softened, “We’re not getting divorced.”
Was it Izabella who didn’t want to divorce, or was it Brett? Kaley would rather believe it was the former.
“Brett, you and Izabella… I never thought I would become the person I hate the most. I feel like I am a horrible person.”
Brett didn’t like self–pitying people. But to Kaley he had guilt, which helped the little more patience he kept when facing her.
“You don’t have to feel sorry for her.”
Kaley asked with a worried look on her face, “Brett, if my health were better, would you still keep your promise to marry me?”
Faced with these questions, Brett couldn’t answer any of them, or maybe he didn’t know how to answer. The emotions he had just suppressed suddenly surged again.
Kaley had been with him for so many years that she could see right away what Brett was thinking, and she hid the loss in her eyes as she spoke words of comfort.
“Brett, I just don’t want you to be forced to do things you don’t want to do because of me.
Brett suddenly stood up and interrupted her, ‘I’m going back to the office to work overtime. I won’t be coming here for a few days.”
“Brett.” Brett left quickly. By the time Kaley got up to chase him, he had already left the dining room
The door slammed shut, and she felt a shiver in her heart, unsure of what kind of expression to make
Kaley walked to the window in a daze, watching the figure downstairs. She kept staring until the figure disappeared from sight.
The first thing Brett did when he returned to the office was to prepare for the acquisition of the Salotti Group His assistant Liam sent him a transfer record. He glanced at the amount, and it was a total of 3 million
