Izabella was running low on money, and Amelia asked her, "Do you want to see him after his surgery?"
Izabella said, "Nah, I better not." Lucas probably didn't want to see her right now.
She didn't want to upset him when he was at his most vulnerable after surgery.
Izabella said, "Just help me find him a careful caretaker. As for the medical bills, I won't pay for him if he has money on him." Lucas had just gotten ten million from Heckter last week, so he probably hadn't spent it all yet.
Izabella said, "If he doesn't have money, give me a call."
Amelia nodded and asked with concern, "Are you feeling better now?"
Izabella said, "Hmm, thank you, Amelia." If it wasn't for Amelia, she might have gotten stuck in a dead-end this time.
Izabella glanced at her medical report again and put it back in the file bag, "I'll leave this with you for now. I'll head home."
Amelia said, "Get some rest. The trial starts the day after tomorrow. Be in good spirits and don't let Brett underestimate you."
Carrying a bag of medicine, Izabella deviated from her direct path home and made her way to the end of the hallway. There, a wide window stood open, inviting her gaze towards the towering buildings outside.
Perched on the fifth floor of the hospital, the autumn wind carried a distinct chill, noticeable even from within. The brisk breeze gently caressed her face, causing her pores to contract. A shiver ran down Izabella's spine, momentarily jolting her awake from her reverie.
She took out her phone from her bag and called Brett.
She was so familiar with Brett's phone number that she didn't even need to search for it.
Looking at the familiar number, Izabella pursed her lips and hesitated before pressing it.
The call went through, and after five rings, the other side leisurely picked up.
"The trial starts the day after tomorrow, and you're calling me now. If you're withdrawing the lawsuit, I'll pretend nothing happened and treat you well like before," Brett said confidently over the phone.
Izabella's grip tightened around her phone as she unconsciously retorted, her tone laced with sarcasm, "Oh, just like before? Slapping me in the face, or treating me like a lover at night and then expecting me to serve you like a maid during the day?"
Brett was taken aback, his expression betraying his astonishment. After a prolonged silence, he finally mustered a response, "Izabella, I genuinely saw you as my wife, you know. Don't be ungrateful."
Izabella's eyes brimmed with heavy sarcasm as she scoffed, "Well, why don't you just make Kaley your wife then?" Her question carried the weight of accusation, as she continued, "Was it you who severed Lucas' hand?"
