Chapter 212
Yvette’s eyes were shut tightly, and her body trembled slightly. Xavier’s hand froze, and he stopped what he was doing when he realized that she wasn’t asleep at all. Her forehead was covered in sweat. Seeing how he had stopped, she let out a breath of relief.
Despite holding her, Xavier still couldn’t sleep. So, he decided to get out of bed and go outside.
When Yvette woke up in the morning, he wasn’t by her side anymore. Everything that had happened the previous night felt like a dream. She didn’t care about it and went to wash herself up.
She tried her best to compose herself in front of the mirror before leaving the bedroom.
The door to the study room was open. When Yvette passed by it, she saw Xavier sitting on the office chair. He was back to his cold self as he went over some documents.
Yvette thought about her plan and had no choice but to let go of her dignity. She approached the room and knocked on the door.
“What’s up?” He didn’t lift his head at all,
“I’m sorry about last night.” She went against her feelings and said, “I was probably feeling aggrieved when I said all those things.”
As Xavier held the documents, his gaze was stuck on the first row of text. He couldn’t focus on reading them at all. He set the documents down and looked up at her.
Yvette was wearing a simple shirt, and her face was a little pale. Her long hair fell loosely on her shoulders, and she looked pitiful. She looked like she had in the past, but there was something different about her. He could feel it, but he couldn’t pinpoint what it was.
‘Come here.”
Yvette entered the room and stood in front of him. “Let’s go back to the mansion. I want to apologize to Lynn.”
He looked at her with a probing gaze and asked, “Why do I have a feeling that you’re unwilling to do it?”
She clenched her fists slightly. “I do feel unwilling. But I can do it for you.”
Xavier examined her closely. In the past, he had been too used to Yvette being humble. At that moment, he didn’t think she was doing it for him.
“Do you still love me?” he asked unexpectedly. When those words left his mouth, even he was surprised. He had asked the same question before, but Yvette had told him that she didn’t know the answer back then.
She was stunned as well. Then, she lied, “Yes…” It was a familiar answer, but he still felt upset.
“Pack your stuff. We’ll go back in a while.” He looked away. “You don’t have to apologize to Lynn. There’s no need for that.”
Lynn had been sent abroad last night, and she wouldn’t return to the country ever again.
Yvette didn’t know what had happened to Lynn, and she didn’t ask about it. Instead, she simply left to pack her bags.

Back at Lane Mansion, Shannon had found out about what had happened the previous night. As she drank some hot milk, she couldn’t help but feel frustrated.
“I used to think she was a simple–minded woman. From the looks of it, I guess I was wrong.”
She put the glass down, unable to drink anymore. She asked Mandy, “There’s a festival tomorrow. Does it mean that Malcolm will be on a break?”
Mandy nodded. “Yes. His class will end at 12:00 pm today.”
