Kiki wanted to learn more about the situation, but Zachary unexpectedly came into the living room. So, she hurriedly ended the call. 

“Zac, why are you back now? Did school end early today?” She had sent him back to kindergarten again. 

He had been standing at the door for a long time and had heard what she said on the phone. He finally realized that Xavier was staying with Yvette after becoming blind and losing his memories. 

“Yeah, our teachers said we could go back early on Fridays because it was getting colder. Didn’t they. announce it in the group chat, Kiki?” 

She put a hand on her forehead and said, “I’m sorry. I’ve forgotten to check the group.” 

Since Kiki didn’t have a driver anymore, Zachary had walked home by himself. Kiki approached him and felt guilty. “Here. Let me give you a kiss as an apology.” 

When he heard that, he looked disgusted and avoided her. “I don’t want it.” 

“Alright…” She couldn’t help feeling disappointed. 

Zachary noticed it and said, “Kiki, if you feel bad, take me to Sangine County this weekend. Let’s spend some time with Mom.” He wanted to see how Xavier was doing as well. 

“No way.” She immediately rejected the idea. After all, she had promised Yvette that she wouldn’t let Zachary go near Xavier. 

Zachary calmly said, “A few days ago, I saw news about a boy getting into an accident. He was only five years old and was walking home alone. There was also a six–year–old kid who was kidnapped when he was traveling home by himself…” 

Kiki was speechless, thinking about how he was trying to make her feel remorseful. “I promise I won’t forget to pick you up from school ever again,” she swore. 

“In that case, I want to visit my classmate this weekend.” 

“Sure.” She agreed to it immediately. She had no idea what he was planning. 

He had wanted to ask to visit his friend in the beginning, but he had been worried that Kiki might not agree to it. So, he had suggested going back to Sangine County during the weekend first. 

But since she had rejected that request, he decided to bring up visiting his friend. That was how negotiations typically went; after someone rejected the first request, they would tend to agree to the second one if it was relatively trivial. 

When Zachary had returned to kindergarten that day, all the other kids had asked him where he had gone. He had given everyone a perfunctory answer. 

Then, Malcolm had secretly told him, “You have no idea how my grand aunt kept looking for you after you went missing. She even found your dad recently.” 

Zachary was confused and wondered if Shannon had already found out that he was Xavier’s son. “Did she say who my father was?” 

Malcolm shook his head. “No. But I saw him. He was tall and handsome.”
