Chapter 340
If Yvette hadn’t known Yara’s true nature, she wouldn’t be able to see through her hypocrisy now. A hint of disdain flashed across Yvette’s stunning, deep eyes.
“Who are you attempting to trade me with this time? Or perhaps you want to use me for your personal gain?”
Yara was immediately exposed and could no longer maintain the facade. “Have I ever told you not to look at me like that?” She stared into Yvette’s eyes, wishing she could gouge them out and crush them.
Yvette ignored her. “Would you prefer to leave on your own, or shall I escort you out?”
Yara eventually returned empty–handed. Her mind was consumed by Yvette’s icy gaze on the journey back.
She had been upset when Terrence had informed her that Yvette had James‘ will, in which he had chosen to give the company to Yvette instead of Terrence.
Yara had felt a strong urge to dig up James‘ grave out of frustration. She muttered to herself, “Even after death, you won’t let me live in peace.”
Some people spent their entire lives trying to recover from traumatic events from their childhood. Yvette watched as Yara drove away and stayed there motionless for a long time.
Suddenly, Claude approached her silently and placed a coat on her back. Yvette turned around and noticed that he had come and was standing behind her. “Claude, when did you get here?”
“Unfortunately, I got here before Yara left,” Claude replied.
She averted her gaze. “I’m sorry that you had to witness that confrontation.”
Claude gently brushed the snow off her hair and asked, “Are you treating me like an outsider? Ave been close friends since childhood, right?”
Yvette nodded with teary eyes. After that, she asked, “Why are you here?”
“Viola invited me to come,” replied Claude.
Yvette instantly understood Viola’s intentions. As Claude was about to step inside the house, she stopped him.
“Claude, ignore what Viola said. She was simply concerned for my well–being and wanted to find someone to look after me. But I want you to know that I’m more than capable of taking care of myself and others.”
Claude’s throat tightened as he heard her words. It was an indirect rejection, and he couldn’t help but feel a pang of bitterness. However, he refused to accept it.
“Yvvy, what are you thinking? We’re good friends. Vigla just invited me for dinner.” He gently caressed Yvette’s head.

Yvette blushed when she heard his words, realizing she had misunderstood. She had believed Viola wanted Claude to be with her and was repeatedly giving them opportunities.
She had wanted to clarify it, only to discover she had assumed wrong. The tension instantly dissipated. “Sounds good. I’ll go buy some groceries later. Just let me know what you’d like to eat.” Claude felt uneasy when Yvette suddenly relaxed. “Anything is fine. I love whatever you cook.”
He had a sudden idea and exclaimed, “Since I drove here, why don’t we go buy groceries together?”
“Alright.”
