Suddenly, the grandfather clock in the house started chiming. Viola turned around and looked at the clock. She mumbled, "It's already midnight. I'm heading to bed now."
"Alright."
Yvette watched as Viola left. Then, she placed her hand on the bump on her belly.
She felt complicated after hearing what Viola said. After all, Viola hated him a lot not too long ago. Yvette didn't understand why she would change her mind about him that quickly. She'd even said Yvette could stay with him.
Yvette looked at Xavier and the boys again and shook her head. There was no way she would walk the same path again.
When they cleared the branch and the excess snow, Xavier brought the children back to the house. Yvette immediately made a fire at the fireplace to warm them up. "Take a warm shower later and go to bed after that."
The children nodded their heads. They'd only been giving Xavier instructions earlier, and they didn't feel cold at all.
As for Xavier, his good-looking, slender arms were red, but his expression didn't shift at all. He'd probably worked the most in his entire life during his stay there.
Yvette thought about what happened earlier that night, and she didn't dare to look at him. After the two children had warmed up, she immediately took them to take a shower and got them fresh clothes.
They might have been outside for a long time because now, the raging fire in Xavier's heart was gone.
…
Soon, it was the New Year. Yvette woke up early to prepare delicious food for the children. Then, she started decorating the house.
They'd only celebrated Christmas when they were abroad. Now, they finally had the chance to celebrate the New Year.
When she walked toward the kitchen, she saw Xavier with the cook in there. He was in casual clothes and had an apron on him, looking like a househusband.
When he heard the footsteps behind him, he put down the pierogies in his hand and turned to her. "Yvvy." He didn't question who it was at all. When there weren't a lot of people around, he could tell who it was from their footsteps.
