“Daph, what are you planning to do now? Did Mr. Lane say when you’re going to get married?” 

Yvonne clenched her jaw. “If there’s no other choice, I’ll expose Yvettaonline so that she’ll die a social death.” 

Daphne got up and began trimming the flower arrangement beside her. 

“Don’t.” She paused and explained. “That will affect Xav, too.” 

Yvonne subsided. When she was gone, Daphne snapped the scissors viciously. An entire rose fell to the floor. 

Whether it was now or in the past, Xavier had never mentioned marriage. Sometimes, she had no choice but to admit that love always made itself known. Xavier did not seem to have ever had feelings for her.

Seeing that he had come, Daphne struggled to get up and threw herself into his arms.

There was disgust in Xavier’s eyes as he pulled her off of him. “Have you forgotten what I said to you?” 

Daphne’s cheeks burned at his rejection, but she did not give up. “I haven’t forgotten. You said that since I once saved Madam Shannon, you’ll treat me well and give me anything I want! 

“Xav, weren’t things between us good when we were dating? Everyone said that we were a beautiful couple. 

“Why don’t you want things between us to continue? Is it really because of Yvette? Didn’t you say that you didn’t like her?”
