“Don’t worry, Kiki. I’ll come and get you tomorrow 

Kiki knew that she was going to see Xavier, and she took her hand. “Yvette, don’t make things hard for yourself. It’s just free accommodation for seven days. I’m not scared. Don’t worry.” 

After Yvette got out, she got into a cab. When she turned on her phone, she saw Daphne’s Tweet. The bold letters read, “The innocent will be proven Innocent!” 

Innocent? Yvette gripped her phone tightly, and the tips of her fingers whitened. 

She rushed to the office, only to hear from the secretary that Xavier had hired an executive CEO and was currently resting at home. 

Xavier, resting? That was the first time she had heard of such a thing. Yvette had no choice but to take another cab to Dewberry Manor. 

When she got there, the security guard clearly knew that she was coming, and he did not stop her. Outside the huge manor, it was especially quiet. The scenery hadn’t changed much. 

Yvette had just reached the door when she heard a muffled thump. She instinctively pressed a thumb on the digital lock, and the door opened automatically. 

Yvette realized that he hadn’t deleted her fingerprint from the system. The moment she stepped into the room, scenes from the past flashed through her mind. 

She looked inside from the foyer and saw Xavier lying on the floor. The thump had been the sound of him falling off the sofa. 

Yvette walked inside. There was still a trace of tobacco lingering in the air. 

“Mr. Lane.” She went up to him and saw that his brow was tightly furrowed. There were faint beads of sweat on his forehead, and his eyes were closed tightly in pain. 

“Xavier…” She squatted down and put a hand on his forehead. It was burning. 

He had a fever. Her ice–cold touch soothed him for a while. When Yvette moved her hand away, he grabbed her wrist and pulled her toward him. Yvette almost fell on him. 

They were inches apart, and Xavier murmured vaguely, “You heartless thing. Are you going to run off again?” 

Heartless? Who was the heartless one? 

Yvette wanted to pull his hand away, but he held on to her even more tightly. She was pressed against his chest, and she could hear the sound of his strong heartbeat. 

Yvette frowned and looked at his pained expression. Xavier rarely got sick, but once he did, it would take him a long time to recover.
