Emma felt pleased when she saw that Kara was about to fall.
However, the next second, she froze, because James caught Kara swiftly with his long arms.
Kara thought she would hurt pretty badly this time, and did not expect it when she smelt the familiar mint fragrance, and then found herself in the arms of her man. She took a deep breath.
Her bag fell to the ground, and the stuff inside was all scattered out.
"It must have frightened you. Don't be afraid!"
James comforted Kara immediately, showing little attention to other things.
Kara was startled and shook her head.
"No, it's fine."
Seeing her being panicked, James felt angry. He stared coldly at Emma while still holding Kara in his arms.
"Emma, take out the things in your pocket!"
Emma panicked. James would not forgive her if he knew that she had blackmailed Kara.
"I, there is nothing in my pocket." She reached her hand out guiltily.
However, James decided not to be merciful and asked the servants to take out the things in Emma's pocket.
The maid immediately walked to Emma and took out the envelopes from her pocket.
Emma wanted to stop her, but she was too slow. Seeing that the maid had got hold of the envelopes, she felt embarrassed.
They were the same envelopes that the elders gave Kara, but why would they be in Emma's pocket?
Emma was trying to hide something.
Everyone stared at Emma.
At this time, James's gaze fell on Kara, "Where are the envelopes that the elders gave you?"
Kara looked at Emma. Sensing Emily's warning gaze, she frowned slightly.
She wanted to tell him about it, but she didn't know how to start.
"They are in my bag."
James picked up her bag and did not find any envelopes. It was obvious that they had been taken away by Emma.
"Emma, explain."
James's words were concise and crisp, but his tone made people not dare to slack off.
Emma glared at Kara with hatred, thinking about how to explain. "They, they are..."
"They are yours?"
Looking at his daughter's embarrassed look, Emily turned furious.
Emma was her daughter. It would be such a humiliation if people know that she was a thief.
Hearing his mother excusing for her, Emma immediately nodded and walked behind Emily, "Yes, they are mine."
Emma's explanation made Kara speechless, "What a liar!" she thought.
James sneered and pointed at the envelopes in the maid's hand. "Then tell me what's inside?"
Emma became nervous. She twisted her hands and asked Emily for help.
"James, she is just a kid. It's normal that kids don't remember things so clearly," Emily said.
"Oh, Kara's envelopes are missing. And there happened to be five more envelopes in Emma's pocket. What a coincidence!" James asked seriously.
Those envelopes from Kara were all given by the elders. Although there were not much money, yet if Emma dared to steal them, it was obvious that she did not take Kara seriously.
James brought Kara here to visit the elders. He didn't care if the Hemmings accept her or not.
But he wouldn't allow anyone to bully her!
Zoey stared at Emma, her eyes probing. Although Emma was a little rebellious, it was not to the point of stealing.
Moreover, Emma was her only niece. Kara was still an outsider. Zoey knew who was closer.
"There must be a misunderstanding."
