They hugged together and froze for a second after they were fully aware of each other's condition.
Suddenly, a thunder fell, which frightened Kara. She closed her eyes and curled into his arms. She almost buried herself in his chest to acquire a sense of safety.
James was stunned. Then he felt Kara's fingers trembling, realizing that she was just afraid of thunder. All he could do was to knead his forehead.
"Honey, would you let go of me please?"
He felt an impulse but tried his best to contain it. And his effort to control himself made his voice somewhat hoarse.
Without noticing this, Kara refused, "No, I wouldn't. Uncle James, I'm scared."
James suppressed his physical impulse, took a deep breath, and took her back to the bedside.
"Relax, I'm here with you."
He gently patted her back to comfort her. When he accidentally touched the smooth skin of her well-shaped shoulder, he felt it like an electric shock. He had to grinded his teeth and clenched his fists to restrain his feelings.
"Uncle James, please let me hug you for a while, just for a while," she cried and begged him.
James looked at the ceiling, feeling glad that she wanted to hug him.
She cried with a low voice like an injured kitty seeking comfort in his arms.
He could do nothing but sigh. To hide his unusualness from her, he carried her to the bed and covered both of them with a quilt.
"I will be with you. Don't be afraid."
He said in such a gentle voice that Kara was seized by the fear that she would be disliked by him.
She begged, "Uncle James. If I take in everything you say, will you like me forever?"
James was trying to suppress his desire with his eyes shut when he heard her words.
He opened his eyes and asked, "When did I ever dislike you?"
He was puzzled and his eyes were full of confusion.
"You once mistook me for dating my schoolmates and ignored me. Didn't you hate me at that time?" She complained.
"You think so?"
James couldn't help but chuckle. He didn't expect that Kara would think like that.
"Isn't that so?"
She bit her lower lips with tears on her eyelashes as she blinked. She looked so adorable that James wanted to cuddle her tightly in his arms.
"Don't be a fool. I wouldn't hate you for such a trivial matter!" James emphasized.
Since she had been worried for such a long time, she felt even more upset with his explanation.
"I was going to give the notebook to Eli, but he didn't accept it. I cherish Eli's friendship because I don't have many friends. That's why I can't say anything ruthless to him. I was not dating him!"
She cried harder as she talked. Her voice was so soft that James felt sorry for her.
"Uncle James, you're so mean. How could you suspect me of dating others just because of a notebook? I'm too silly to be loved by anyone. Besides, I don't want a romance yet!"
Seeing her crying, James was angry and upset.
Another thunderstruck frightened her to burp, choke, and sob in his arms.
James didn't know what to say.
He was almost mad as the longing he tried to control was again aroused.
However, her tears kept running down her cheeks. He tried to wipe them away but in vain.
He was impatient and stopped wiping her tears. He lowered his head and kissed her eyes, licking the corners of them.
"Uncle James, what, what are you doing?"
Kara was shocked and stopped crying. She grabbed his muscular arm out of panic.
James was also stunned.
But the sense on his lips was so good that he didn't want to move them away.
Noticing her nervousness, he restrained his restless impulse and slightly kissed her again at the corner of her eye.
"Don't cry. You look ugly when crying. You almost wet the quilt."
