Sophia was as weak as smoke as if just blinking could disperse her. He remembered that before he left, she had gone to the office to see him, her face looked better with good spirits.
How many days had it been? Just three days.
To think that Sophia was still pleading for her and she still said that she didn’t hurt Sophia?
He shook his head heartlessly and ruthlessly and shattered Mia’s heart. Though this was within her expectations when it happened, she just resigned to it helplessly. His look was as good as using a knife to pierce her heart and it hurt to the bones.
His hand tightened around the collar and William pursed his lips tightly. His glare was as if he wanted to swallow her as he emphasized every word, “If it isn’t for the urgency of Sophia’s bone marrow transplant, what you did today, you will die!”
With a push, she fell to the ground. Her back was cut by countless glass shards but the pain was in her heart. The air flows in like countless fine needles prickling right into her lungs. The pain was penetrating to the bones. With big strides, he left without taking a look at her and slammed the door shut. The room was pitch dark.
“Boss, Professor Davies is looking for you.”
“How’s Missus?”
“She is sleeping after taking the medicine.”
“She’s a light sleeper, close the windows, don’t alarm her.”
“Yes Sir.”
“Adjust the air conditioner to twenty-seven degrees and set the time.”
“Yes Sir.”
“And…”
The footsteps became further and further, his voice was full of concern for her. William’s concern for Sophia was meticulous.
Mia mustered her strength to stand up and turned on the lights. The room was in a mess with all the broken glass. This room wasn’t well equipped and with the glass panel broken, it looked empty and frightening.
She attended to the wounds on her body and climbed onto the bed, she ignored the shattered glass and slowly closed her eyes.
Mia opened her eyes as dawn breaks and the light shone into the room. The light reflected from the broken glass like countless sarcastic eyes reminding her of what happened yesterday and also the ruthlessness of the world.
Her life had already been turned upside down by William and destroyed. At twenty-two years old, that’s the time a woman dream about being loved but she had to endure the violence of a cold-blooded and ruthless man. The flower had withered before it could bloom. Two drops of tears flowed across the fair and haggard face, radiating unparalleled sorrows and misery!
She curled up tightly like an animal waiting to be protected. She was so fragile that she could disintegrate at any moment.
Outside the room, chatting and laughing could clearly be heard. Her stiff body started to twitch and her expression turned to horror! William’s voice! She was terrified whenever she heard his voice!
The corridor quietened down and she didn't feel safe. She anxiously got out of bed and stumbled to a safe corner. Like a fly darting around, ignoring that her naked feet being cut by the shards of glass!
The voice was just outside, will he come in?
She quickly turned and clung next to the window. It was her only means of escape. If he comes in, she will jump out. The terrified look turned and looked down from the window. It was a cement ground and it was the second floor. She will be severely injured if not dead if she was to jump.
And so what? Her hands trembled violently as she held onto the window frame and a few of her nails broke silently. Outside the window, someone blared the horn as a greeting and she looked towards the car park. James’s image drifted into her eyes unexpectedly like a ray of sunshine and finally warmed her ice-cold soul.
Before he got in the car he looked in her direction as if he had seen her.
“If you can’t figure it out, don’t be too hard on yourself. It’s not easy to be alive. Learning how to talk and walk took several years. Why can’t you use your desire for suicide to do something worthwhile?”
This was what he had said before! She just remembered these words and they were like a wind that blew open her heart and breathed life into it.
Yes, it’s not easy to be alive and she must continue to live!
He was long gone and nowhere to be seen. She looked and saw several iron bars across the window and was immediately thankful, had there not been these iron bars, she might have already jumped down.
Not long after, Rebecca brought a few servants out and like treating an Emperor, bent forward forty-five degrees. William’s black image appeared and walked out in long strides.
She quickly looked away and hid. She grabbed the curtains and wished that she could disappear! The terror he brought far exceeded her ability to endure it. She was trembling all over and break out in cold sweat. She was terrified even if he couldn’t see her.
Once the sound of the engine passed, her world was quiet again. Had William left?
It took a long time before her pale face dared to look outside. The Maserati was gone and the car park was empty. Rebecca led the servants back. William had finally left.
She sighed a breath of relief, sat back at the bed, and realized that her legs were trembling violently.
