Uncovering My Wife's Secrets (Annalise and Julian) novel Chapter 8

Chapter 8 Samuel In Danger

“Good. Very good. Annalise, find a lawyer to talk to me. I would like to see what kind of lawyer can chase me out of the house I have been living in my whole life. Please invite the reporters to come over too. Ask them to report on the news to show the public how my ungrateful niece, whom I raised, betrays me,” Kent said, infuriated.

“Okay. I’ll get a lawyer, and you’ll get the reporters,” Annalise said while staring at Kent with interest.

“Y-You…” Kent was so enraged by Annalise’s arrogant attitude that he could barely utter a complete sentence. Bethany supported Kent and said to Annalise in a pleading tone, “Anna, please stop. Your Uncle Kent has heart disease and can’t take any more stress.”

“Let’s complete the transfer of ownership the day after tomorrow. You all go find a new house and move out as soon as possible.” Annalise went upstairs after saying that.

A cold gleam flashed across Kent’s eyes as he watched Annalise walk up the stairs.

After Annalise disappeared up the stairs, Bethany asked Kent in a lowered voice, “Hubby, what should we do now? Annalise is nothing like a country bumpkin who grew up in the countryside. She’s pretty smart!”

Kent said through gritted teeth, “Information is too accessible in today’s era. Even kids who grew up in villages are quite knowledgeable. I have underestimated her.”

A hint of malice flashed across Bethany’s gaze. She lowered her voice even more as she suggested, “Hubby, now that things have come to this, why don’t we just…”

Without finishing her sentence, Bethany made a gesture of slicing the throat.

Kent frowned as he heard that. “Do you think I have never thought of that? Heather had written in her will that in the event of Annalise’s demise, all of the assets in Moonlight Group would be donated to South River Foundation.”

Bethany muttered, “I thought that only applies if she dies before 20 years old.”

“If she dies between 20 and 50 years old, 90% of the assets in Moonlight Group will be donated to South River Foundation.” Kent was displeased at the thought of this.

Bethany replied, “Heather is indeed smart and calculating. Annalise has inherited her intelligence. Otherwise, how could a kid raised in the countryside be that smart?”

Kent let out a long sigh before saying, “Luckily, I have a backup plan.”

“What is it?” Bethany’s eyes widened.

Before Kent could explain his plan, his phone rang. It was a call from Samuel.

Noticing who the caller was, Kent shushed Bethany with a solemn expression on his face. Then, he put on a smile and answered the call. “Hello, Old Mr. Parks. How can I help you?”

“Mr. Barton, we’re going back to Jadeborough tomorrow. I must treat you all to a meal before leaving. I suggest we have dinner at Hamilton Hotel tonight. What do you think?” Samuel smiled.

“Sure thing.” Kent readily accepted his invitation.

“If you guys are free, you may come over here earlier. We’re in the 1888 presidential suite of Hamilton Hotel,” Samuel said.

“Okay. Sure!” Kent replied fervently.

After hanging up the call, Bethany lifted her chin in the direction of the stairs. “Are we telling her about it?”

Abigail rolled her eyes. “Why should we tell her? For her to steal my limelight?”

Bethany said, “But if we don’t tell her, what if Samuel asks…”

Kent cut her off, “If they ask about her, we’ll tell them that she went out to meet her friends. We’ll explain that since she grew up in the countryside, she enjoys hanging out with those improper friends of hers.”

“Yes. That’s right!” Abigail raised her chin, visibly satisfied with that explanation.

At four in the evening, Kent, Bethany, and Abigail reached the 1888 presidential suite in Hamilton Hotel.

Samuel sat on a couch in the living room of the presidential suite.
