As Amara had anticipated, the moment she stepped into the grand hall, a wave of surprise swept across the crowd.
Apart from Finnian and a few others, no one had ever seen Amara without her mask. They were all taken aback by the stunning beauty who had just entered, only to realize moments later that it was indeed Amara. Their surprise deepened.
Amara felt a flutter of nerves. She had spent years working behind the scenes, her self-esteem bruised by the scars she bore, and had never been the center of attention for her looks. Her heart raced a little faster.
Taking a deep breath, she composed herself and walked in as if nothing was amiss.
“Is that you, Ama? Did you get your face treated? You look absolutely stunning,” Martin and Andrea exclaimed as they approached her, their compliments genuine.
Amara nodded in acknowledgment, exchanging a few casual words with them. Soon enough, Peter and Bess joined in, commenting on her appearance in a tone that was dripping with flattery.
Recalling how Peter and Bess had looked down on her in the past, Amara found the situation both amusing and ironic.
Trailing behind the couple was Celeste, clutching a small purse so tightly that it seemed she might tear the strap, her eyes green with envy as she stared at Amara.
Amara couldn't stand Peter's family, Celeste included, and wasn't in the mood to engage with them. She uttered a few courteous words before moving towards Mr. Kevin Everly.
Mr. Kevin Everly was already seated at the head of the table, waiting for her. As she approached, he extended his hand, “Our Ama looks so beautiful. Lisa told me you looked great without the mask, but I didn’t expect you to be this stunning.”
Amara smiled and looped her arm through Mr. Kevin Everly’s, playfully asking him to stop with the compliments or she’d blush.
