Chapter 114
Logan put his thoughts into action. Reaching out, he gently removed her glasses before saying in a deep and low voice, “Raine, you look even better without glasses. Your eyes are very beautiful.”
Lorraine took back her glasses and put them on. “My nearsightedness is severe. Without glasses, I can’t see clearly.”
Logan remembered that they met because she had mistaken him for someone else as she wasn’t wearing glasses then.
“You could wear contact lenses.”
“I’ll consider it next time.”
Lorraine didn’t care much about it. As long as she could see clearly, any type of glasses would do.
“About what you mentioned earlier, I’ve actually been planning for it, but I can’t implement it just yet. My debt hasn’t been paid off. Once I have the money, I’ll set up a food factory to produce dried fruits and preserves.”
Lorraine was ambitious, but she didn’t have enough money.
“I can-”
Lorraine interrupted him immediately, “Don’t say you can lend me money. Do you even have any left? You spent all your savings on that set of jewelry for me. I went to the reunion to say goodbye to the past and face reality, not to show off.
“Besides, I have nothing to show off. You bought me such expensive jewelry without discussing it with me first.”
Thinking about how he spent so much on jewelry for her to hold her chin up high in front of her classmates, her heart started aching.
“Logan, if you ever want to buy me anything, please consult me first. If I agree, then you can buy it, especially for expensive items. We have to live frugally in our current situation. We don’t need to follow trends. I spend most of my time in the orchards, so I don’t need jewelry.”
Although she should be happy that Logan spent so much on jewelry for her, she couldn’t be. Especially considering how poor their household was and that they had two children to support.
“Raine, we’re still young and have many opportunities to make money. Don’t worry, we’ll get through these tough times soon. I won’t spend money recklessly again.”
Since their marriage, he hadn’t given her any gifts. He thought he would take this chance when she attended the class reunion.
Assuming she didn’t understand jewelry, he confidently asked Michael to pick the cheapest set. But it turned out she knew more than he thought.
Glancing at the sky, Lorraine said, “It looks like it’s going to rain again soon. Let’s go back.”
As they walked out of the orchard, Lorraine continued the earlier conversation, “In short, always remember we have two children to raise. Their kindergarten expenses cost nearly ten grand a month. As long as you remember that, you won’t spend money recklessly.”
