Chapter 123
William explained, “I believe it’s because the missus isn’t that focused on you as of now, which is why you managed to deceive her. If she were to pay a little more attention to your behavior, she’d find you suspicious right away.
“You’re pretty good at pretending to be poor, Logan, but there’s still plenty of flaws that could be caught under scrutiny.”
Logan paused for a moment before replying, “Let’s just see how it goes for now.”
He had given himself three months to win over Lorraine’s heart.
He also realized that William had a point. The fact was that Lorraine had not yet fallen for Logan enough to be focusing on him, which made her susceptible to being deceived.
Otherwise, there were plenty of obvious flaws that would have ticked her off about Logan pretending to be poor.
“Do you need my help to deal with the missus‘ problem with her fruits?” asked William.
The problem with the fruit sales plaguing Lorraine right now was extremely trivial to these business tycoons.
Logan glared at William and grumpily replied, “Do you honestly think that I’m so incompetent?”
“I was just asking out of courtesy. If you don’t need my help, then just pretend I never asked.”
William poured himself another cup of tea. “There’s a banquet tonight. Are you going?”
“I’ve never liked attending banquets.”
“It’s mainly focused on business, so the guest list is all bigwigs within the business world. Are you sure you don’t want to join?”
Logan calmly replied, “I need to go home to my family. A bachelor like you wouldn’t get it.”
“Having a family makes you feel special, huh? If I really wanted to look for a wife, there’d be a whole line of women interested in becoming my partner, and it could stretch through the entire city, you know? Anyway, Benjamin will also be at the banquet tonight. Aren’t you going to fight him or something?”
Everyone within Glendale’s business circle knew that Logan and Benjamin were arch–enemies.
“He’s an old bachelor. That’s even worse,” replied Logan.
William was left speechless.
Logan had never specifically targeted Benjamin at all. It was simply that their companies operated within the same industry, which included inevitable competition between peers.
Both of them were successors to their respective families. While Benjamin was four years older than Logan, he would always fall short of Logan in every aspect of life.
Both of them were prideful men.
Benjamin wanted to surpass Logan and prove himself, which led to the two of them forming a publicly known rivalry. But if they were to cast aside their identities, they actually had feelings of mutual admiration for each other.
William put down his teacup and left. “I’m going back to work.”
He was afraid that Logan might continue to tease him about being a bachelor to the point that he would snap and find a woman to marry in a hurry.
After William left, Logan made a call to a man called Stuart, who managed the orchards within Moore Estate.
Stuart was extremely startled by the phone call from Logan as he had never once received a call from Logan ever since he took charge of the estate’s orchards.
He anxiously ransacked through his brain to figure out if he had done something wrong to warrant a phone call from Logan directly.
Several hills around Moore Estate had been developed into orchards filled with various seasonal fruits. The size of the orchards and the number of valuable fruit trees were very much on par with Lorraine’s orchards.
Among the seasonal fruits included cherries.
The Moore family was not particularly fond of cherries, and as such, the cherries were mostly sold for profit. Only a small amount would be kept around to be eaten as part of the
