Chapter 148
Luke glanced at Lorraine.
Seeing that she didn’t refuse, he was delighted. He said, “Well, there are plenty of restaurants around here. You pick one, and we’ll eat there.”
Luke thought it wouldn’t cost much for a few adults to dine in this area. At most, it would only add up to 300 dollars.
Finnegan eagerly accepted the task of choosing the restaurant.
Lorraine said calmly, “Luke, since you insist on treating us, let me take these groceries back to my apartment and put them in the fridge first. The weather is hot, and they’ll spoil quickly if we don’t store them soon.”
Hearing that she was still living in a rented apartment, Luke inwardly gloated. The worse off she seemed, the easier it would be to win her back.
He had married into a wealthy family and earned some money through his father–in–law’s connections, but his wife always looked down on him. He’d grown tired of her long ago.
Still, he put up with it for the sake of his son and financial stability.
However, that didn’t stop him from seeking excitement elsewhere.
Lorraine was someone he had once liked. Not to mention they were both married. Even if they had a secret affair, Lorraine wouldn’t force him to get a divorce. It could save him a lot of trouble.
“I’ll walk you back.”
“It’s just across the street at Violet Corner.”
Despite Luke’s insistence, Lorraine didn’t let him inside the building.
Back at the apartment, she asked Finnegan, “Finn, what are you planning to do?”
“Mom, Mr. Luke won’t stop bothering you. Even if you remain indifferent, he won’t back off, unless you give him a good beating. But you won’t do that with me and Luna around, right?”
Seeing Lorraine at a loss for words, Finnegan continued, “So, I called our aunts to come over and teach him a lesson. After this, he won’t dare use dinner as an excuse to bother you anymore.”
Heating this, Lorraine smiled and tapped her son’s forehead lightly. “Finn, you’re so young and already so scheming. I wonder whose daughter will fall into your trap when you grow up.”
She was both amused and a bit taken aback by her cunning four–year–old son.
Fortunately, Finnegan was her son.
“Dad taught us to strike hard and hit our enemy’s weak spot when dealing with them. Only then will they be afraid and leave you alone.”
Lorraine put the groceries in the fridge, planning to use them tomorrow.
“That’s true. Your dad is right.”
Logan was a smart guy. She thought it was a waste of his talents to only work on a construction site.
She decided to talk to him about finding a different job when he got back tonight.
The summer heat was brutal, and working outside all day could lead to heatstroke.
The two kids then chimed in proudly, “Dad is the best!”
