Chapter 153
Even though the most expensive dishes here were only a few hundred dollars each, ordering all dishes over 100 dollars and requesting double portions added up quickly. Luke wasn’t sure if he had enough money on him to cover it all.
He definitely didn’t want to use his card since it was linked to his wife’s phone and any expense would alert her immediately.
“Hey, kids.”
Luke took the menu from Finnegan’s hands with a forced smile. “You’ve already ordered plenty. It’s just a few of us eating. We can’t finish too many dishes. It’ll be a waste.”
Finnegan blinked innocently. “But Aunt Veronica can eat a lot.”
Luke fell silent.
“My other aunt is picky. She won’t touch anything that’s less than 100 dollars.”
Luke felt a headache coming on.
He had underestimated Lorraine’s sisters–in–law.
He had thought they were just girls and wouldn’t eat much. But one was a foodie, and the other was picky. This meal might just leave him penniless.
“Luke, if you can’t afford it, that’s fine. We’ll just go home and cook for ourselves.”
Lorraine added salt to Luke’s wound. Looking troubled, Luke quickly responded, “I can afford it! Even if I took you to Glendale Grand Hotel, I could still cover it. It’s just a bit far from here. Otherwise, I’d have taken you there. I’m just worried the kids might over–order, and we can’t finish it all. It’ll be a waste.”
“Mr. Luke, there won’t be any waste. With Aunt Veronica here, there won’t be enough food.”
Besides, Logan would also be coming soon.
Lorraine could eat quite a bit herself.
Hotel dishes were usually small but exquisite.
Luke glanced at the waiter’s notepad again and asked, “How many dishes are there so far?”
The waiter counted and replied, “20 dishes.”
“Let’s start with these 20. If we need more when everyone is here, we’ll order more.”
The waiter nodded with a smile.
Finnegan gave Lorraine a discreet victory sign, making her stifle a laugh.
She always knew her kids were smart, cute, and well–behaved. But she hadn’t realized just how good they were at scheming.
Since Finnegan ordered double portions of each dish, there wasn’t enough room on the table for 40 plates at once. The waiter first brought out 12 dishes, each in a single portion, leaving the rest to be served later.
Just as the food arrived, the three ladies from the Moores walked in.
What a perfect timing.
“Sorry, Lorraine, did you wait long? Traffic was terrible, so we got here late.”
Jenny led her two cousins into the private room. Seeing Lorraine, she explained.
