Thorne hadn’t even had a chance to say anything before his phone started buzzing. He stepped outside to take the call, and by the time he returned, the waitress was already laying out plates of roast chicken, mashed potatoes, and Caesar salads. Just like that, Moran’s awkward question was swept under the rug.
Right now, the author of the paper that engineers across the globe were scrambling to read was sitting right at their table.
As they dug into dinner, Professor Mack and his PhD students couldn’t help but flip through the main points and data in the paper, occasionally glancing up to pepper Charlene with questions.
It didn’t matter if they asked about something complicated in the research, or about some problem that had been stumping them for months—Charlene answered every question, quick as a whip, her explanations clear and confident.
Vesta watched it all, but inside, she felt oddly calm. Seeing Charlene hold her own in a technical discussion with Professor Mack and his students, it really did look like she knew her stuff.
But… was that even possible?
If Stewart had the guts to list Charlene as the lead author on the paper, he must have made sure she was totally prepared.
Initially, when Stewart announced Charlene as the first author, Vesta had been genuinely shocked.
But if this research really was all Charlene’s work, as Stewart claimed, then wouldn’t that mean she was even more brilliant than her own advisor, Professor Kevitt Smith?
That just didn’t add up.
She wasn’t Stewart. Sure, there were plenty of geniuses in the world, but not everyone could be a Stewart.
So, most likely, the research was Stewart’s, but he wanted to give Charlene a boost by putting her name in the spotlight—
Once Vesta came to that conclusion, she shot Charlene a sideways glance, watching her chat animatedly with Professor Mack and the others. Then she looked away, expression cool and indifferent.
Maureen and Leah seemed to be thinking along the same lines.
Leah, who was never good at hiding her feelings, looked like she was about to explode. Seeing Charlene act like a real expert—actually giving Professor Mack advice—made her almost jump up and blurt out the “truth.” But since Maureen and Vesta kept quiet, Leah managed to bite her tongue.
Thorne also noticed Granger talking to Charlene, but only glanced over before turning away, unmoved.
Vesta, on the other hand, pressed her lips together as she watched. Did Granger really believe Charlene was that talented? Was that why he liked her?
But… that couldn’t be it. Granger had shown interest in Charlene even before The Harden Group and PrimeStar started working together.
So, Granger’s feelings for Charlene had nothing to do with how skilled she was.
Just then, Thorne’s voice sounded beside her. “Penny for your thoughts?”
Snapping out of her reverie, Vesta glanced at Charlene, who’d been the star of the evening, and at Thorne, who hadn’t paid Charlene a bit of attention all night. Vesta let out a soft chuckle, her mood suddenly light. “Oh, nothing.”
Whether Charlene was really a genius or not, Vesta thought, she still didn’t matter to Thorne.

I know its ur story and u obviously have ur own plot line and all and have every right to build the story as u like but what writer provide isnt just entertainment, but they shape the narrative of young minds. So I would say that romanticing cheating is, or rather THORNE'S behaviour, wrong for all the reasons..give york a chance ..that will be way more satisfying...again all of this is just my point of view but if charlene and thorne get back together, its not the story im looking for...
Hey...please dont ever make Charlene and thorne get back together no matter what...he simply doesn't deserve it....no matter the reason or plot twist behind the way he treated his legally wedded wife....whether he actually slept with vesta or not....just his emotional cheating...not repecting his spouse....not caring enough to actually get to know the person his wife was....and actually distancing his child from her mother and encouraging her to bond with the mistress are all the biggest RED FLAGS... when a person enters a contract....he must uphold it no questions asked...its not like if ur partner isnt good enough, ur allowed to cheat..allowed to let a 3rd person in-between....if ur not satisfied with ur partner then u can get a divorce...whats the point of all the wealth, power and brilliance of mind when the ML cant even get his head around this simple fact...So, its fine it he regrets, but charlene shouldn't be with him in any case.....
Enough already. This novel is dragging slowly. Updated with 2 chapters only. REALLY!!! Whoever the author or authors of this novel why is there a delay in penning more chapters? Here’s my question. In reading the comments from others does their opinions matters and/or make a difference? Are comments being monitored? Or is it only a tool allowing readers to blow off steam?...
Long wait to just get an upload of a couple of chapters. Very little progress in the story if any at all! For heaven's sake the story is 453 chapters so far with nothing or little change from where the story began! Show commitment to us your readers and followers please!...
Hi..its my 1st ever time commenting on any story. But seriously....i dont mean to come as rude but are u seriously thinking about the stroy or losing ur grip on the plot and characters...not updating...no story development...no commitment towards ur readers...u just uploaded 2 chapters after god know how long and still nothing to give to the story..if u dont want to write or simply cant then please dont...
The updates are so slow that I forgot the story for some time and just remembered it and read 20 chapters. The chapters are short and the story development is like a snail. 451 chapters and Charlene still couldn't break her image in other's eyes or dealth some serious damage to Vesta and her trash father....
It would be better to say right away that there are 10 chap/month...
Just give us updates already...
We're stuck at this chapter for over 2wks now Very annoying Thorne and vesta having the tune of their lives while Charlene is stuck More annoying...
Updating chapters to this novel is reminiscent of a sloth. There should be a disclaimer when this site states PUBLISH 10 chaps/day....
