Unveiling the Genius Behind the Divorcee Chapter 73

Chapter 73 Grent to Have His Support

Aylin was rarely left speechless.

As a young nobleman, Robert may have a bad temper, but he still pays great attention to his personal image and self-cultivation. It’s rare for him to resort to physical violence, and this is the first time Aylin has witnessed it.

However, she had no intention of stopping it; Haleigh simply deserved it!

In the three years at the Delacruz’s home, it could be said that Haleigh never let her have a single good day.

In the cold winter months, Haleigh wouldn’t allow her to use the washing machine, forcing her to hand-wash her cashmere coat in cold water. As a result, her hands developed frostbite the next day, and she was still criticized for not washing it thoroughly enough. Steve, out of love, gave her some private money, but Haleigh tried every means to take it away and eventually lost it all at the card table. When she tried to express her concern, she was punished by being forbidden to eat for a day. Her nights were even worse, as she was often woken up halfway through her sleep to give Haleigh a massage. When she was too weak from a fever to do so, Haleigh accused her of faking illness and being lazy, pinching her arms until they were covered in bruises.

Each and every incident pierced Aylin’s heart like a needle.

At first, she didn’t resist. She held a glimmer of hope that perhaps if she did well, she could impress Gavyn and Haleigh. She respected Haleigh as her mother-in-law, willingly submitting and bowing her head, allowing herself to be at their beck and call.

It turns out that kindness also needs to have an edge. No matter how many pleasing things you do, those who don’t like you will never come to like you.

Listening to Haleigh’s pig-like screams, Aylin couldn’t help but feel extremely delighted.

Three years, a full three years had passed, and she finally experienced once again the feeling of being protected by her family and having Robert’s support.

“Be careful not to hurt your hand!” Aylin exclaimed.

Upon hearing this, Robert slapped Haleigh twice and quickly turned back to respond to Aylin’s concern, “Don’t worry, Aylin. It doesn’t take much effort for me to hit her!”

Upon looking at Haleigh again, she had already lost her composure, abandoning her umbrella and only focusing on covering her head as she scurried away.

She stumbled awkwardly in her high heels, and before long, she missed a step and took a hard faceplant!

“Ouch!!!” Haleigh exclaimed loudly.

The expensive shawl was stained with mud, and Haleigh’s carefully styled hair had long been disheveled. Her thick makeup was smeared by rainwater and tears of fright, with the smudged eyeliner streaming down under her eyes, forming a dark mess. She looked utterly miserable.

Unable to hold back, Daniel let out a burst of laughter.

Robert was even more blunt, his face full of sarcasm. “Oh, aren’t you an elder? Why are you showing me such a big gesture? I don’t have a monetary gift for you, but I can give you a slap.”

Haleigh shuddered, her desire to survive overwhelming her at this moment. Within three seconds, she had scrambled to her feet.

She didn’t even have time to grab her umbrella as she covered her bruised face and ran. As she got farther away, she couldn’t help but curse and grumble to save face, “You, you all just wait! I’ll make sure you pay for this!”

Robert snorted coldly, pulling out a handkerchief to wipe his hands. “Go ahead and try, and see if I don’t beat you into a high-level paralysis!”

Haleigh ran off, and Robert turned to look at Aylin. The fierceness in his eyes instantly transformed into a myriad of tender emotions.

“Didn’t you say everything was going well? Is this what you call ‘going well,’ huh?”

After such a long time apart, seeing Aylin so thin and frail made Robert’s heart ache as if it were being pr*cked by needles.

Aylin pursed her lips, “Actually, I can handle these things myself. I know you’re worried about me, brother, but you all are so busy. I don’t want to cause you any more concern for me…”

Robert pretended to be cold-faced, “What could be more important than you? Do you think your brother won’t worry if you don’t say anything?”
