Venerable Demon King & The Doting Immortal (QT) novel Chapter 50

Chapter 50: Sending the ugly man back

While lamenting his melon seeds that had been robbed by the twins, Xiang Yu glanced at the man. The carriage softly swayed, the rhythmic motion almost lulling him into a false sense of calm. The man’s complexion had returned to normal, and he was no longer sweating. The antidote was especially effective. Whoever sold Lian that drug was smart enough to sell that antidote otherwise this demon lord would have had to hunt them down and kill them for this.

He snorted coldly, restraining himself from beating the man again. The man’s lips were split, with dry blood crusting over the wound, a glaring reminder of what he had been robbed of. With a sigh, he opened another bag of dry fruits, only to see another hand slip through the curtain. He sighed again, seeing the empty bag of melon seeds the twins had returned. And now the bag of fruits was also taken by them. "I must have owed you two in my past life," he muttered before turning back to the pages of his book.

Lian with her cheeks puffed up leaned in and whispered to her sister, "Do you think our master is in love?"

Mei shook her head slightly but whispered back, "I don’t think so, but we could create a romantic atmosphere tonight."

Before they could elaborate further, Xiang Yu interrupted their plans, his voice cutting through the curtain, "I heard you. I am not in love with him. It was an accident. Now stop daydreaming."

"Then Master, shouldn’t you take responsibility. Sister Dan Dan said that if you kiss someone for their reputation you have to marry them," said Lian her head peeking through the curtain.

Xiang Yu, "..."

"She meant the woman’s reputation. Does he look like a woman," argued Xiang Yu opening up a can of worms. Who would have thought that his first kiss would result in a gender argument?

"What about a man’s reputation? Men also have a reputation to uphold. Master, no girl would marry him if they knew he was kissed by someone else. He is your responsibility now," chimed in Mei bringing forth some good points.

"Yeah, a prince only kisses one princess," said Lian, and Xiang Yu’s face were filled with black lines.

"No one will know except you two. Wait, why are we even arguing about this? Watch the road," he said but who did he think he raised? Just like him they didn’t back down. The quiet forest road was flooded with the voices of them arguing back and forth as the carriage continued its journey through the winding roads.

"I will do it," he said expecting to endure a lot of pain resisting the array.

"Master, be careful," said Mei nervously while Lian was biting her nails n anxiety. Xiang Yu stepped forward with the man propped up in his hands. The excruciating pain didn’t come neither was he pushed out. There was no resistance coming from the protection array. A white mark suddenly glowed on his forehead, causing the girls to gasp in astonishment. They had lived with their master for years and didn’t remember ever seeing such a mark.

"Where did that mark come from?" Mei whispered, her eyes wide with shock.

Xiang Yu’s brow furrowed. He hadn’t told them what had happened the previous night. The man they were transporting had done something to him, burning this mark into his forehead. Because he hadn’t seen it in the bronze mirror that morning, he had assumed it was part of the illusion. Now, as the mark glowed brightly, he realised it was very real.

The girls exchanged worried glances, but Xiang Yu couldn’t worry about this now. It was because of this mark that he was able to get through the protection array unscathed. Because the gate was at a distance, he carried the man for a good ten minutes before reaching it.

Xiang Yu gently set the man down and glanced back at the twins, who were anxiously waiting for him. He gave them a thumbs up, and they heaved a collective sigh of relief. "Master, hurry back!" Lian yelled, her voice tinged with worry.
