What Separates Me and You novel Chapter 133

Chapter 133 He’d Know About It Sooner or Later

Josephine’s eyes slowly went wide. What was that? She seemed to recall having heard of that disease before.

Dr. Halliday steeled his heart before explaining, “In other words, it’s dementia. Then again, please don’t let it bother you too much, Madam. You’re still very young, so it’s unlikely that you’ll be diagnosed with this disease. I think the possibility of you receiving brain damage in the past is higher. Did you happen to hurt your head in the past?”

Josephine nodded in response. During her three-day captivity in Seth’s hideout, she had lost count of how many times she fell and bumped her head.

Dr. Halliday let out a relieved sigh. “Then that should be the case. You don’t have to worry about this. Treating dissociative amnesia is much easier than treating Alzheimer’s disease.”

Upon hearing the doctor’s words, Josephine let out a sigh of relief as well.

However, Dr. Halliday continued, “Just in case, you should visit the hospital and get a

thorough check-up.”

Josephine pursed her lips. Suddenly, she was afraid of visiting the hospital. If she were to get diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease, she wouldn’t know what to do.

She was already a mute, to begin with. If she were to be reduced to a forgetful idiot, she couldn’t imagine how difficult her life would be.

Josephine managed to type out the next message with shaky fingers. “W-What will happen to mei-if I have t-that disease?”

Dr. Halliday explained, “Alzheimer’s is a very complicated disease. It’s a disease where your nervous system slowly deteriorates over time. Even though it’s not life-threatening, it will still cause the patient to forget how to fulfill basic needs during the late stage, such as eating, using the toilet, or even walking. The biggest obstacle for the patient isn’t the disease itself, but rather, the inability to survive on their own.”

The more the doctor spoke, the more hesitant he became. Even though Josephine was still very young, there were still cases where young people were diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease.

Josephine bit her bottom lip as she lowered her head quietly.

After a long time, she finally started typing on her phone. “Dr. Halliday, can you please not tell anyone about my condition, no matter what the diagnosis is?”

Dr. Halliday looked perplexed when he saw the request. “Are you still not planning on telling President Alvarez?”

Josephine nodded in response.

“Why? Isn’t he your husband? How can you get treated if you don’t tell him anything?”

The woman clenched her fists for a moment before finally typing another message for the doctor. “I don’t want him to worry about me.”

Dr. Halliday was stunned for a moment. He could understand why Josephine didn’t want to let Lewis know about her condition. “Then again, he’ll still find out about your illness sooner or later, even if you don’t say anything.”

Josephine shrugged before writing her next message. “I’ll deal with that when the time comes.

”

Not wanting Lewis to worry about her was just an excuse. Josephine was afraid to see the cold disdain shining in his eyes when he found out about her illness.

The fact that she was a mute was enough to make Lewis hate her.

Dr. Halliday just sighed helplessly. “Alright, then. I’ll drop by and check on you tomorrow. You must write down the things you recalled by then. Tomorrow, we’ll try to come up with solutions that might help you out.”

Josephine nodded quietly.

Dr. Halliday shot her a meaningful look in response. Now that Josephine’s fever was already gone, there was no need for him to continue staying in the mansion.

After leaving the mansion, he got into his car and dialed Lewis’ number.

The call was quickly answered. “How is she?”

Dr. Halliday replied, “She’s doing fine. I’ve prescribed some herbal medicine for her to improve her health. Otherwise, she’ll just keep catching colds now and then.”

“Got it. Just send me a list of the herbal ingredients needed to brew the concoction. I’ll have someone drop by the apothecary and pick it up.”

Dr. Halliday ended the call after that. Then, he added Lewis on WhatsApp before taking out a piece of paper and a pen to write down the list of herbal ingredients for Josephine’s treatment. Then, he snapped a picture of the list before sending it to Lewis.

Lewis forwarded the picture to Conrad afterward so that he could go ahead and pick up the

medicinal herbs.

No matter what, he needed Josephine’s health to improve. If she really ended up getting diagnosed with that disease, she might die before that disease progressed to the late stage.

That night, Conrad was the one who delivered the medication to Josephine’s doorstep. Lewis

had yet to go home.

Seated on the couch, Josephine crossed her legs and held a pen in her hand. She chewed on the

25

tip of the pen, seemingly in deep thought.

When Conrad stepped forward to see what she was doing, he noticed the blank pages on the notebook that she was planning to write in. The sight amused him, prompting him to ask, Madam, what are you planning to write?”

Josephine raised her head to look at Conrad. She decided to write to him in her notebook. “I’m thinking about what I want for dinner so that I can write it down.”

“Is that so? You can always text me what you want to eat in the future. There’s no need for you to go through all this trouble.”

Josephine forced out a smile as she nodded slightly.

“Alright, it’s time for dinner. I’ll go ahead and brew the herbal medicine for you. President Alvarez asked me to pick the medicinal herbs up before coming here.”

With pursed lips, the woman glanced at the bag filled with various herbs. However, she made no gesture or wrote anything in response.

Conrad didn’t bother to wait for her reply as well. He entered the kitchen so that he could get the concoction started. Once Josephine was done with dinner, he waited for her to swallow the medication before taking his leave.

The herbal concoction was quite bitter, causing Josephine’s expression to warp into one of discomfort.

After Conrad left, Josephine returned to the couch to continue thinking about the events she had forgotten. It was very difficult for her to remember things like that on purpose.

It was normal for her to remember them out of the blue, anyway.

If Josephine wanted to prove her memory was problematic, she could only force herself to recall the core events that affected her life-for example, the memories of the three days she had spent as Seth’s hostage.

The event that led to Avery leaving Elysium was also a core memory as well, not to mention. Lily’s tragedy.

That morning, Josephine did her best to recall everything about those events, but she could. never remember what they were.

She quickly picked up her pen and started writing the names “Lily, Seth, and Avery” on the notebook. Those names would be the keywords of her core memories.

There was no need for her to try to remember the incidents related to them on purpose, seeing as she didn’t know what exactly she had forgotten in the first place. She would only realize the truth once she finally recalled everything about them during a random moment.

That night, Lewis didn’t return to Styx Mansion.

Josephine curled up on the couch and spent the night there. The next morning, Conrad, who had dropped by to bring her breakfast, was the one who woke her

The assistant was as meticulous as ever. He watched her eat her breakfast and take her medicine before leaving the mansion.

Dr. Halliday arrived at the mansion that afternoon.

It was drizzling outside when the doctor knocked on the door hurriedly before entering the mansion. The moment he put down his medical kit, he asked, “How is it, Madam? Did you

write anything down?”

Josephine nodded while passing him the notebook that had been sitting next to her.

Dr. Halliday flipped through the notebook. “What’s this? Are you able to remember anything related to the things you’ve written in this notebook?”

Josephine scooted over to take a peek at the contents. With an outstretched finger, she pointed at Seth’s and Avery’s names, but the moment she noticed Lily’s name, a hint of confusion appeared in her

eyes.

In the end, she could only shake her head, indicating that she couldn’t remember anything.

“Did these events happen recently?”

Josephine nodded in response.

Dr. Halliday’s expression darkened immediately. He stared at Josephine, intending to say something, but held his tongue at the very last minute.

“Madam, why don’t we go to the hospital right now?”
