Chapter 166 Never Mention That Word
Quintin looked back at her several times but still did not get a response from Josephine. He guessed she probably didn’t feel like talking about it, so he decided not to ask further.
The journey back to Styx Mansion was silent.
“You live here, right? I thought I remembered seeing you here before,” Quintin recalled.
The first time he saw her, she was weeping sorrowfully in the middle of the road. Although he didn’t know what had happened to her, her tearful appearance left a strong impression on him.
Unable to resist seeing her like that, he approached and helped her up. She then looked up at him, and since then, her watery eyes were carved in his mind..
Josephine nodded and thanked him.
Quintin got out of the car and opened the door for her. “Be careful. The car is a bit high,” he said while helping Josephine.
However, as soon as Josephine stepped out of the car, another vehicle suddenly appeared and came to a steady stop behind the van.
As Josephine caught sight of the car, a surge of adrenaline coursed through her body, electrifying her veins and causing a numbing sensation in her limbs.
After the car came to a halt, Conrad stepped out from inside, then went around to the back to open the rear door.
Quintin also fixed his gaze on the person emerging from the car. Eyes devoid of emotion, Lewis stepped out and scanned the two. He tugged at the collar of his black trench coat and slowly walked toward Josephine.
Quintin greeted him, “President Alvarez, I’ve brought your sister back.”
Lewis’ gaze swept over Quintin before finally resting on Josephine’s face. “Is that what she told you?”
Confused, Quintin was stunned.
Suddenly, Lewis pulled Josephine into his embrace and wrapped his arm around her waist before looking at Quintin. “Well, thank you, Mr. Quintin, for bringing my sister back.”
Lewis’ tone was calm, but the word “sister” had an ambiguous ring to it for Quintin.
Perhaps it was the pause Lewis made before uttering those words, or maybe it was the way his hand held onto Josephine’s waist, but Quintin couldn’t shake off the strange feeling that lingered in his heart.
Yet he didn’t bother dwelling on it any further. He waved at Lewis. “Goodbye, President
ויד
Alvarez.”
With that, Quintin got into his van and drove away, disappearing into the distance.
Lewis’ deep, dark eyes remained fixed on the departing vehicle before he turned back to look at Josephine.
Josephine pursed her lips tightly. She wanted to free herself from his grip, but his hands were iron-clamped to her waist.
Lewis pulled her closer, causing her to lean into his embrace.
He lowered his gaze and spoke softly, “Did you have a good time, sister?”
His last word pierced her heart like a sharp needle.
Josephine turned away, refusing to meet his gaze because she knew how cold and scornful they would look.
Lewis caressed her cheek with his fingers, inch by inch, until they reached her forehead.
Suddenly, Josephine felt a sharp pain.
She abruptly lifted her head and saw Lewis tearing off the bandage from her forehead. He glanced at it before casually tossing it onto the ground.
Then, he tidied her disheveled hair with care. Her hair and clothes were left dirty when the Husky pounded on her earlier.
His movements were slow and gentle, but Josephine couldn’t sense any emotion in them.
It was like how she would compulsively overeat when feeling down, not due to hunger or desire but to release pent-up emotions.
Lewis’ actions evoked a similar feeling.
Chilled by the cold wind, Josephine shivered. The sky was still drizzling.
“How did you get yourself so dirty?” Lewis suddenly spoke. Then, he took her hand and led her towards the house. Josephine trotted behind him unsteadily until they reached the
bathroom.
Upon seeing the bathroom, she inexplicably felt a sense of resistance.
He pressed Josephine onto the stool in the bathroom and picked up the showerhead to adjust the water temperature. “Take off your clothes.”
Josephine kept her head down and remained silent. Fingers interlocked, she didn’t move.
Lewis looked down at her and spoke again. “I said take your clothes off.”
This time, his tone was commanding with a hint of anger.
Still, Josephine didn’t budge.
Suddenly, Lewis set the showerhead aside and bent down to personally help her undress.
Josephine hugged herself and turned her body away as if challenging his actions.
The next second, Lewis grabbed her shoulders and turned her around. He then forcefully. removed her coat and tossed it aside.
Josephine lifted her hand to push him away, but her efforts proved futile. At that very moment, he effortlessly stripped off her sweater as well.
She despised his hypocritical behavior, detested his inconsistent treatment, and loathed how he restricted her despite lacking love for her-above all…that news article.
Overwhelmed by a wave of helplessness and an uncontrollable surge of anger, Josephine stood up, balled her fists, and struck out aimlessly at him.
However, her blows barely had any impact on the man.
Effortlessly, he firmly grasped her wrists, pushing her back until she stumbled and leaned against the wall.
He then raised her hands and pressed them against the wall.
Josephine lifted her head. Her eyes were red as she glared at him.
She wasn’t good at hiding her emotions, especially in front of him. Therefore, her resentment and grievances were evident in her clear eyes.
Lewis silently observed her without uttering a word.
