What Separates Me and You novel Chapter 217

Chapter 217 He Understood Something

Two security guards opened the private room door, and Lewis walked in with Tyler behind him. Xavier immediately stood up and went forth with a smile to greet them. He reached out his hand to Lewis and said, “You must be Chairman Alvarez. It’s a pleasure to meet you.”

While speaking, Xavier briefly glanced at Tyler, who stood behind Lewis. Given his own standing, Xavier had no direct interaction with Lewis, and his presence at this gathering was solely due to Tyler’s connection with him. When Tyler learned of Xavier’s intention to get in touch with Alvarez Corp, he immediately thought of involving Lewis. As for Lewis, he merely joined the meeting because he did not want Xavier to meet Kiran. If Xavier and Kiran were to work together, the situation could quickly escalate beyond control. Lewis met Xavier’s gaze and shook his hand.

“Chairman Alvarez, you look even more charismatic in person than you were on television,” Xavier said.

Lewis casually sat on a couch and said calmly, “Vice President Walter, am I right?”

Hearing the

way Lewis addressed him, Xavier’s expression stiffened, but he forced a smile and nodded. “Yes, I’m still the vice president as of now.”

“Oh? Does this mean that you’ll soon be Newgate Corporation’s president?”

“It’s too soon for that. My cousin’s incident has not concluded yet, so I came here today to learn more about this situation from you.”

Lewis leaned back and lit a cigarette. He said, “You might have asked the wrong person then. I do not know anything about Mr. Walter’s incident.”

“Oh, is that right? Did he not come to discuss a partnership with your company? Could it be that he did not meet with the person in charge?”

“He did come to discuss a partnership, but what does this have to do with us? Did he not die in a restaurant?”

Xavier was speechless. He took a glance at Tyler. Tyler was casually sipping on the wine, looking indifferent.

“Is that right? Chairman Alvarez, I intend to understand the situation, so I hope to meet the staff who discussed the partnership with my cousin. There’s no other meaning behind it, and I’m not trying to blame your company for this.”

Lewis said in a deep voice, “I see. I thought that you were here to discuss the partnership with me. Since you want to meet the staff, then I’ll call her here to meet you, Vice President Walter.”

Xavier’s eyes lit up upon hearing the mention of a partnership. The previous concerns regarding the staff and his cousin’s situation faded into insignificance. With a smile, he

responded, “I can meet with the staff anytime. Since Chairman Alvarez has graced us with his presence, discussing business matters should undoubtedly take precedence.”

Discussing a partnership directly with the chairman of Alvarez Corp would be less

troublesome than discussing it with a staff. Furthermore, the likelihood of achieving success in establishing the partnership would be significantly higher.

Lewis smirked and leaned forward to extinguish the cigarette in the ashtray. He asked, “What would Vice President Walter like to discuss?”

Xavier promptly responded, “Yes, it’s the same project my cousin discussed with your company. We were informed about the merger between Alvarez Corp and the overseas holding company. Our company specializes in manufacturing electronic hardware and chips, which aligns well with the expertise of the overseas holding company. Up until now, we have primarily focused on exporting our products. However, as you may be aware, the electronics. technology sector doesn’t offer significant advantages in terms of export trade.”

Alvarez Corp had a subsidiary company overseas and an extensive network of established channels and connections. If they could build a relationship with Alvarez Corp, their company would reach new heights. Xavier added, “Our company upholds stringent product quality standards. Otherwise, we would not have been able to go public.”

Following its public listing, Newgate Corporation began experiencing a series of setbacks, including continuous financial loss, which ultimately led to a warning of potential delisting. In an attempt to salvage the company’s dire situation, Mr. Walter leveraged his connections to establish a relationship with the prestigious Alvarez Corp, hoping to turn the tides in their favor. Little did he know that his endeavor would ultimately cost him his life.

“I have no problem with this, but are you in the position to make this decision for your company?” Lewis asked.

His words triggered Xavier, and his voice stiffened as he replied, “My cousin is dead, and I’m the vice president. Why wouldn’t I be able to make the decisions?”

“Didn’t you mention that your cousin’s matter was still not concluded yet?”

Xavier was stunned. His heart missed a beat, and while a realization seemed to dawn upon him, he still grappled with uncertainty. Xavier testingly said, “It’s just an accident, right? I’m sure it’s easy to settle. Since my cousin has passed away, naturally, I should help take care of his funeral arrangements.”

Lewis smirked. He lifted the wine glass from the table and said, “Then, I’ll wait for you to finish with the funeral arrangements before discussing the partnership.”

From the tone of the conversation, it seemed that the negotiation for the collaboration had been fruitful. However, the finalization of the contract and subsequent steps hinged on Xavier’s ability to navigate the current situation. With his years of experience, Xavier swiftly grasped the implied message behind Lewis’ words. He responded with a confident smile and

raised his wine glass from the table. “Sure. I look forward to our collaboration. Rest assured, I’ll settle this quickly.”

Lewis nodded lightly and did not say anything else. He lifted the wine glass to his mouth and took a sip.
