Chapter 275 Kill Him
The bodyguard was stunned upon hearing the order.
Quintin was the same, but he started howling with laughter soon enough, making him look like a lunatic. “I hit the nail on the head, didn’t I? You must be humiliated and angry now, right? You deserve that, Lewis Alvarez! Hahahahaha!”
All Lewis had to do was shoot a look at the bodyguard, resulting in him quickly covering Quintin’s mouth.
Quintin continued to unleash a stream of curses at Lewis, refusing to back down. However, his words devolved into unintelligible mumblings.
The bodyguard picked up the blood-stained dagger. Soon, he would cut off Quintin’s tongue.
Lewis had just turned around when he felt someone tugging at the corner of his shirt.
He turned back to see Josephine.
She clutched the corner of his shirt while staring up at him with tearful eyes. Unfamiliarity wasn’t the only emotion swimming in her eyes right now; there was also a strong hint of fear.
Lewis gripped her wrist before pulling her into his arms. Then, he used his other hand to lift her chin forcibly, murmuring, “Are you afraid of me?”
A small smile bloomed on Lewis’ face as he caressed Josephine’s chin with his thumb. His voice sounded unbelievably flirtatious and ambiguous as he said, “It’s alright. You won’t remember any of this tomorrow, anyway.”
Josephine’s eyes went wide once again as tears rolled down her cheeks. She responded by shaking her head wildly.
Lewis ignored her silent pleas as he glanced at the bodyguard sideways, noting the latter’s dazed look. He gave the next order in an airy tone. “Do it.”
Josephine gripped Lewis’ sleeve tightly with wide eyes, her knuckles already paling from the force, while she sobbed quietly.
Upon realizing that the man would always be unmoved, she pushed him away before rushing to put herself between Quintin and the bodyguard. Then, she gripped the bodyguard’s arm while looking at him pleadingly.
The latter looked conflicted for a moment. He turned his head to look at his boss, seemingly waiting for his next order.
By then, Lewis had already returned to the chair and sat back down. He kept staring at Josephine and Quintin coldly the whole time.
Josephine stared at Lewis as well with watery eyes. She raised her hands to gesture, “Please let
him go. It’s all my fault. I was the one who wanted to marry him. I was also the one who suggested leaving this city. This has nothing to do with him.”
Upon reading the gestures, Quintin roared with reddened eyes, “Don’t plead to him, Josephine! I’d rather die than have him toy around with me!”
Josephine shot Quintin another anxious look, wishing she could shut him up. Then, she turned to look at Lewis pleadingly once again in hopes that he would spare Quintin’s life.
She wasn’t close to Quintin, yet her actions had endangered his life. She was the one who had dragged him into this mess.
The young woman shouldn’t have agreed to get married to Quintin from the start. He was a good man, after all. She didn’t want him to die because of her.
Lewis’ smile grew colder at that moment. A hint of rage soon tainted his eyes.
“You care about him a lot, don’t you? Since that’s the case, I mustn’t let him go at all costs. Kill him.”
Everyone, including Conrad, looked shocked the moment the last two words were uttered.
The assistant shot an astonished glance in Lewis’ direction. It seemed that he truly had gone crazy; if he were to kill Quintin for real in the warehouse, Robert and the others would never let him off the hook, much less Damian.
Lewis was definitely shooting himself in the foot right now.
Conrad quickly persuaded in a low tone, “Chairman Alvarez, please don’t act rashly.”
The man didn’t seem to have heard Conrad’s words. His gaze remained glued to the bodyguard as he uttered, “Why are you still standing there?”
Josephine could only stare at Lewis with shock and fear written all over her face. More tears. continued to flow down her cheeks in small streams.
If it weren’t for the fact that she had just witnessed Lewis’ deranged behavior, she never would have believed that the Lewis she once knew would say such cruel and merciless things.
The bodyguard no longer hesitated to carry out Lewis’ order. He gripped Quintin by his hair and moved to swipe his dagger across his throat to execute a clean stroke.
Quintin was also rooted to his spot in a shell-shocked state. He never expected that Lewis had the courage to kill him. That man was either insane or way too arrogant.
This was Quintin’s first time feeling threatened by the idea of dying. He closed his eyes reflexively and gave up on struggling.
His only thought was that he would transform into a vengeful spirit and haunt Lewis for the rest of his days once he died. He vowed never to let him live the rest of his life in peace.
Quintin waited for his death to come. A moment later, he realized he didn’t feel any pain coming from his throat.
Instead, he could feel warm liquid dripping on his forehead. He felt a drop, which soon became two drops and more.
The man’s eyes flew open instantly. He was surprised to see Josephine kneeling in front of him while gripping the bodyguard’s blade with all her might.
She gritted her teeth quietly while frowning in pain. The beads of cold sweat forming on her forehead soon rolled down her face, mixed with the warm tears gushing out of her eyes. Then, they slowly trickled down her cheek and fell off her chin.
Josephine continued to take deep breaths while suppressing the intense pain that flared from her palms. Beads of bright red blood started flowing down the blade of the dagger as well.
Half of them trickled onto the ground, whereas the other half splattered onto Quintin’s forehead. The blood then rolled down his forehead, leaving long, red streaks on his face.
“Josephine!” The man called out her name.
With trembling lips, Josephine lowered her head to glance at him with much difficulty. Then, she turned to look at Lewis.
There was no longer a hint of a smile on Lewis’ face. He kept staring at Josephine unblinkingly, the darkness in his eyes growing to be even more prominent and vivid. Strong currents surged within those eyes, threatening to engulf his senses and break out in waves.
The bodyguard no longer dared to use any force now that Josephine interfered with his task. He could only grip the dagger anxiously, not daring to move an inch for fear that he might hurt the young woman again.
The reason why the chaos erupted was that Josephine had eloped with Quintin.
That bodyguard was no fool. He could never harm Josephine, not in a million. years.
Josephine opened her mouth in an attempt to make a sound when she realized that Lewis was still unmoved despite her actions. Unfortunately, she failed to do that.
At that moment, Lewis rose to his feet and started heading her way.
Josephine’s anxiety grew as she watched him walk toward her.
Finally, the man stopped before her and reached out to grab her by the collar with his slender fingers. Then, he yanked her off the ground.
“How long have you known him for, Josephine?”
Lewis’ voice remained deep and magnetic, though a subtle undercurrent of rage could be detected in his tone. Remarkably, he maintained exceptional control over his anger. Only those
who truly paid attention to his voice would be able to discern the underlying fury.
Josephine looked dazed for a moment. She had no idea how long she and Quintin knew each
other.
She only knew one thing; the moment she laid her eyes on Quintin’s pure and innocent smile, she was confident that he would never hurt her.
