What Separates Me and You novel Chapter 483

The bodyguards that Conrad brought along all turned their backs to Lewis. They would rather not witness his drunken behavior to avoid getting into trouble for it.

Conrad plucked up his courage and unlocked the right car with the remote car key. He cautiously pointed at the Bentley on the other side. "Mr. Alvarez, i-it's that car."

Lewis gave him a side glance, and he immediately cowered.

Dragging Josephine along, Lewis staggered to the Bentley and shoved her into it.

"Josie, sit tight." He even bent over to help her buckle the seat belt. However, she felt a bit suffocated by his heavy weight on her body.

He also reeked of alcohol. Josephine turned her face away to keep a distance between them.

After buckling her seat belt, he left the passenger seat and stumbled his way to the driver's seat.

Seeing that, Conrad dared not hold him back. The best he could do was to ask the others to tail Lewis' car. He hoped nothing bad would happen from Lewis' drunk driving.

Clutching her seatbelt, Josephine stared at Lewis nervously. She noticed that he was struggling to ignite the engine.

"Lewis, why would you drive when you're drunk? Do you want us both dead?"

He didn't seem to hear her words. He was still fumbling for the push button. Conrad couldn't hold back anymore. He pointed to Lewis' right.

"Mr. Alvarez, it's there—in the lower right corner of the gear lock."

Lewis finally found the button and started the engine.

Josephine closed her eyes and sighed helplessly. When Lewis was making a turn, he accidentally broke the side mirror of another car.

Conrad rested a hand on his forehead. He was worried but dared not stop Lewis. Lewis was scary enough when he was sober. No one in their right mind would get into trouble with a drunk Lewis.

Instead, he asked some men to follow Lewis' car. The Bentley in front of them sped in a zig-zag manner. Conrad's heart leaped to his throat upon seeing that.

Josephine clutched on tightly to her seatbelt. However, she didn't say a word to avoid distracting the already drunk driver.

She turned to look at him. It was dim in the car, and she could only make out his side profile. She then let go of her grip on the seatbelt and enjoyed the breeze.

Although Lewis was drunk driving, she didn't fear the trip because she wasn't afraid of death.

Eyes closed, she thought it'd at least be a painless and immediate death if they got into a car crash, given the speed at which Lewis was driving.

Still, there weren't a lot of cars on the road at that hour. She waited, but death did not knock on her door.

The car rolled to a stop. She opened her eyes but could not see anything in the darkness out there. However, she heard the sound of water.

Lewis had gotten out of the car. He came to her side and opened the car door for her. Then, he extended his hand.

She looked at him but did not hold his hand when she got out of the car. Still, he held her hand and led her forward.

They were on a grassy field. The ground felt soft and loose with each step they took. Sea breezes that smelled briny caressed their faces.

She tried to figure out where they were at. When she looked up, she saw the shimmer of the waves on the surface of the sea. There was a faint sight of a moon at dawn on the sea.

The moonlight scattered across the surface of the sea. When the wind blew, the ripples would spread the silvery light around. As a result, it gave off the illusion of a layer of white chiffon on the sea.

She stared shockingly at the sea. She had never discovered such a place in Elysium.

The scenery reminded her of lines from a certain poem.

"'Twas noontide of summer,

And mid-time of night;

And stars, in their orbits,

Shone pale, thro' the light
