When Love Is a Lie (Whitney and Damian) novel Chapter 76

Whitney raised her gaze.

Noel's face was suddenly right in front of hers, with his lips mere inches away. His breath enveloped her.

"Calm down!" Whitney whispered anxiously, stretching out a hand to press against his chest.

Noel's gaze remained intense, seemingly ignoring her warning, as he leaned closer. Her resistance seemed meaningless to him.

Not wanting to make a scene, Whitney braced herself. If he dared to kiss her, she would bite his lip.

She squeezed her eyes shut.

After what felt like forever, the anticipated kiss didn't come. Instead, there was some commotion behind her.

Whitney opened her eyes with confusion.

Noel had reached an arm past her, and as she turned her head slightly, she saw him steadying a small trowel on the shelf that had nearly fallen off.

Embarrassment flooded her. She had misunderstood him again.

Noel withdrew his arm, a faint, mocking smile playing at his lips.

That smile made Whitney's cheeks burn even more, filling her with an overwhelming sense of embarrassment. Unable to meet his gaze, she turned her attention to the small gap outside.

Rachel was leaning on the flower stand, and behind her was Damian.

"Enjoying the view?" Noel murmured softly to Rachel.

Last time, they'd only overheard Rachel and Damian doing things they shouldn't in the fitting room. But now, Whitney was seeing it with her own eyes.

However, her feelings had changed long ago. She felt no pain anymore.

She replied to Noel in a whisper, her expression cold, "I'm not just watching."

She took out her phone and opened the camera before aiming it at the gap. She might as well gather some evidence.

Ten minutes later, the activity outside finally concluded. Damian looked satisfied as he adjusted his clothes.

Rachel gazed at her now-torn dress and pouted. "What am I going to do? How can I go out like this?"

"There's a path behind the greenhouse that rarely anyone uses," Damian said.

"It's all your fault, leaving me in this state. What if someone sees?" Rachel complained playfully.

Damian's voice held a hint of teasing as he replied softly, "My fault? You didn't seem to mind while you were enjoying yourself just now."

Rachel's cheeks flushed, and she wrapped her arms around Damian's neck, murmuring tenderly, "Don't leave me tonight, okay?"

Damian smirked, raising an eyebrow. "Still not enough of it? Aren't you going on a blind date?"

Rachel tiptoed up to kiss his cheek. "I belong to you, Uncle Damian."

Suddenly, there was a loud clatter.

Rachel and Damian both turned their heads to look in the direction of the cupboard.

Whitney's heart leaped in her chest.

When she looked back, the small trowel Noel had just steadied had fallen, taking the nail with it.
