Chapter 161
Kristin’s eyes were wide with shock as she stared at Rhett.
Was he really going all out today?
He even notified the police and the press.
Taking a deep breath, Kristin clutched Rhett’s collar tightly.
Burning bridges with Holcomb did him no favors given his current predicament.
Rhett smiled, taking Kristin’s hand in his. “I promised you a show, didn’t I?”
He was far from done with this matter.
“You’ve lost your mind. You’re insane!” Holcomb began to quiver with fear.
Vincent stood frozen, watching the exchange between Rhett and Kristin, feeling as though a knife had been plunged into his heart.
“You’re bewitched, seduced by this temptress!” Holcomb, seething with anger, picked up a vase from the table and hurled it at Kristin and Rhett.
Rhett frowned, instinctively pulling Summer into his arms and stepping in front of Kristin to shield her from the flying shards.
“Nicola, you’re suspected of incitement to commit grievous harm. Please come with us for an investigation.”
Holcomb was at a loss for words.
“It’s all a misunderstanding, just a family affair. We’ll settle it ourselves,” Nicola said in a panic, looking nervously at Holcomb.
It was a critical time for the selection of the company’s vice president. Even though she knew Holcomb would find a way to get her out, she couldn’t stand it.
If anything went wrong, the consequence was beyond imagination.
Glaring at Rhett, Nicola snapped, “Rhett, for a woman, you’re even turning your back on your father.”
“You’re so cruel.” Summer whispered fearfully, clinging tightly to Rhett. “Daddy, I will protect you from now on.”
Rhett felt a lump in his throat, his eyes beginning to burn.
He smiled, patting Summer’s head gently. “It’s okay, sweetheart.”
“Mr. FitzGerald, we heard that Mrs. FitzGerald poisoned you. Is that true?”
“Mr. FitzGerald, was the housekeeper from Harborside Haven who poisoned you acting under Mrs. FitzGerald’s orders?”

“Your current wife has harmed your ex–wife’s son. What do you think?”
Outside the iron gates, reporters swarmed.
The butler, along with the servants, hurriedly shut the gates, struggling to keep the reporters at bay.
“Mr. FitzGerald, please come out and make a statement.”
The reporters outside were causing chaos.
The police gestured for Nicola to follow them.
“There’s been a misunderstanding. I can’t just go out in front of all these reporters,” Nicola refused. “Whatever it is, talk to my lawyer.”
“Ms. Nicola, please do not obstruct our duties,” the police officer said with a frown.
“What’s your badge number!” Nicola screamed uncontrollably.
“Stop obstructing the law! You’re concerned about losing face in front of the reporters now, but you’ve shown a flagrant disregard for the law and acted with malicious intent,” the officer said angrily, gesturing for Nicola to follow.
Holcomb, trembling with rage, pointed a shaking finger at Rhett, unable to utter a word.
“Don’t touch my mom.” Vincent, furious, tried to protect Nicola.
“If you obstruct police business, you’re coming with us too,” the officer said sternly.
“Vincent! Step aside.” Holcomb finally spoke, signaling the police to take Nicola away.
Nicola hadn’t expected her assistant to betray her.
Grinding her teeth, she wasn’t too worried about facing major consequences.
Gathering her thoughts, Nicola addressed Rhett in front of the reporters. “Rhett, I’m wronged,
but I will prove my innocence.*
“Whether you’re innocent or not, the court of public opinion will decide,” Rhett said, looking out at the reporters. Hopefully, this experience will teach you a lesson.”
The reporters were snapping photos and recording, witnessing the feud within high society.
It was a war without gunfire, an extraordinary spectacle.
Everyone knew that once this story hit the press, it would be the talk of the town for weeks, if
not months.
“Get out! All of you get out!” Holcomb continued to wreak havoc in the living room.
Rhett curled his Cps into a half–smile, placing Summer in Kristin’s arms and draping his jacket over Kristin’s head to shield her and Summer. ‘Enjoy the show? Ready to head home for

dinner?”
Kristin’s eyes were red as she looked up at Rhett. “What would you like to eat?”
“Anything you cook,” Rhett replied softly.
Kristin looked down, her eyes moistening. “Let’s go.”
*Caleb…* called out as he chased after them, wanting to speak with Kristin.
Clearly he wasn’t ready to give up.
At the sight of Rhett’s demeanor, he wasn’t sure if he was just putting on an act.
He didn’t know if Rhett was with Kristin or if he was just using her to rile up Vincent and Nicola.
Kristin didn’t look back as she got into Rhett’s car.
York drove them away, with reporters chasing after the vehicle for quite a distance.
*Handle this. Keep the story hot,” Rhett commanded in a low voice.
York’s palms were sweaty as he hesitated.
He was worried about Rhett.
Openly clashing with the FitzGerald family at this time was clearly not the best move.
It merely gave Nicola an opportunity.
If Holcomb decided to join forces with Nicola against Rhett, Rhett’s situation would become even more precarious.
Kristin understood this as well, aware that Rhett’s path ahead would be tougher.
But what she didn’t understand was why Rhett who always played it safe would…
Was it for her?
Impossible.
