Whispers Turn to Whimpers: Could He Ever Change? novel Chapter 1001

"I can't forgive..."

Caroline Bennett froze, repeating the words in a daze, her gaze suddenly sharp, "What do you mean by that?"

Gilbert Johnson let out a faint, cold laugh, took a deep breath, and sighed, "Exactly what it sounds like."

Then, he turned and walked away.

"Gilbert! Gilbert!"

Watching his retreating figure, Caroline felt his determination. She had this premonition that after he left today, the next time they met... they would be strangers!

In a mix of shock and fear, Caroline shouted, "Gilbert! Stop right there! I'm telling you, stop right now! Do you hear me? Have you forgotten your promise to always be there for me?"

...

Yes, Gilbert paused, remembering he had indeed made that promise.

But now, "I'm about to break that promise."

Once he had made up his mind, there was no going back.

But Gilbert sighed, "I can’t be the same towards you anymore."

After leaving those words behind, Gilbert clenched the doorknob, turned it gently, opened the door, and stepped out.

"Gilbert!"

Caroline, in disbelief, stared at the empty doorway, utterly lost.

He really left!

Suddenly, Caroline gripped the arms of her wheelchair, her eyes gradually filling with a fiery determination. "You stop right there. How dare you leave..."

"Caroline."

Francis Johnson intervened just in time, placing his hand on her shoulder, "Calm down! Stop shouting, Gilbert won't come back... Grandma is still resting inside, do you want to wake her up?"

"?"

Caroline snapped back to reality, looking up at him.

Her eyes, filled with deep confusion and resolve.

"He won't forgive me, but what about you? He's gone... So now, tell me, what are you going to do with me?"

"Caroline."

The man’s handsome face was as gentle and composed as ever, almost to the point of being indifferent.

"Let’s consider this matter closed."
