"Don't miss your own shot?"
Caroline didn't take his offered tissue, nor did she look at him. With a cold laugh, she said, "I think you're just afraid I'll mess things up for you guys."
With that, she pushed her wheelchair and headed straight out the door.
Behind her, Francis stood with the tissue still in his hand, suspended in mid-air.
His gaze lowered, hiding the deep, melancholic shade that lurked in his eyes.
He could only hope... that this would be the end of it.
...
Outside, the caregiver, Josie, saw her coming out and immediately approached her.
Noticing her pale complexion, she asked with concern, "Ms. Bennett, are you alright?"
"Ah..."
Caroline seemed not to hear her, dazed for a few seconds before suddenly gripping the wheelchair's armrests, letting out a piercing scream.
"Ah, ah, ah..."
Her eyes gradually filled with a bloody hue!
Josie was startled, her words jumbling, "Ms... Ms. Bennett!"
The sight was terrifying!
"What's wrong with you?" Josie asked, swallowing hard, wanting to come closer but too scared to do so, yet feeling it inappropriate to walk away.
"Ms. Bennett, are you feeling unwell?"
"Unwell?"
Caroline stared off towards the door, her expression unreadable, teetering on the edge of madness.
"Yes, I am unwell! Very unwell!"
"Huh?" Upon hearing this, Josie hurriedly stepped forward, holding onto the wheelchair, "Then let me take you to the doctor?"
"What doctor?"
"This..." Josie was confused, "If you're unwell, you should see a doctor, right?"
"It's useless..."
Caroline shook her head, her laugh neither here nor there, "Doctors can't cure me, I'll never get better! Ha-ha, ha-ha..."
"???" Josie was utterly baffled and even more frightened.
Ms. Bennett, she... she was alright, wasn't she?
