Sherilyn couldn't help but raise an eyebrow, noticing Gilbert was actually smiling amidst the situation. "Aren't you even a bit worried?"
She was genuinely concerned about him!
"Worried? Not really."
Gilbert shook his head, his smile broadening. "It's just the pinky, and on my left hand at that... Even if it never fully heals, it won't really affect much."
"What kind of attitude is that?" Sherilyn couldn't help but frown.
"Don't be mad."
Seeing her reaction, Gilbert quickly tried to dial back his humor. "Didn't the doctor say it'll heal?"
"Yeah." Sherilyn sighed softly, advising him, "You need to follow through with the rehab exercises."
"Got it."
With a smile and a nod, Gilbert scooped up Jenna, and they headed out together.
Crossing the clinic's lobby, they spotted Caroline seated in a wheelchair from afar, with her caregiver Josie pushing her along.
Sherilyn glanced at Gilbert, questioning without words.
"What's up?" Gilbert seemed genuinely clueless.
What's up?
Sherilyn gestured subtly towards Caroline, doubting that he hadn't noticed her.
"Aren't you going to say hi?"
"Huh?"
Following her gaze, Gilbert seemed to only then notice.
After a brief pause, he shook his head.
"No, let's not."
Continuing on his way, holding Jenna tight, they moved forward.
What was going on?
Sherilyn was baffled, quickly catching up to him, her curiosity getting the better of her. "What's the deal with you two?"
"What deal?"
Gilbert chuckled. "Didn't you say you preferred it if we didn't interact with her?"
While that was true, she hadn't expected him to take it to the extent of not even acknowledging Caroline when they crossed paths.
