The man seemed gentle on the surface, but was actually sharp and assertive. In front of him, Rebecca White felt like she had no choice but to comply.
"Don’t! Not here..."
Rebecca feared he might actually take action, so she reluctantly lifted the hem of her nightgown to reveal her knee.
Francis took a good look, his expression darkening.
"You..."
He tilted his chin slightly, pointing inside, "Go change your clothes. We're going to the hospital."
"No need!"
Rebecca White shook her head, frowning. "It's just bruised, not serious. No need for the hospital."
Francis was silent for a moment, then relented, "Do we have any ointment at home?"
"No," Rebecca White shook her head again, "It's not necessary. It’s just a small injury… it’ll heal on its own in a few days."
Francis held back a sigh, stepped inside.
He didn’t come empty-handed; he was holding a breakfast bag from The Velvet Fork. Once inside, he set it down on the table.
Turning back to Rebecca White, his tone softened, "Go freshen up, then come have breakfast."
"...Okay."
Rebecca White knew there was no use in refusing, so she nodded and went into the bathroom.
Francis pulled out a chair and sat down, picking up his phone to send a message to Sawyer...
After that, he opened the breakfast bag, laying out the food neatly.
In no time, Rebecca White was back.
"Sit down and eat," Francis gestured to the chair beside him.
"Mm, thank you."
Rebecca White complied, sitting down and quietly starting her meal.
"Rebecca..."
After a brief silence, Francis broke it, "This is the second time you’ve been hurt, and you still refuse my help?"
"..." Rebecca White took a bite of her croissant, her cheeks puffed out.
"Do you think I was lying to you last night?"
Francis let out a barely audible chuckle, pointing to her knee, "And now? Do you still doubt me?"
