Joyce drove up to the Blue Plate Diner, invited over by Sherilyn and her husband for dinner that evening.
Being the weekend, the parking lot was pretty crowded.
After a bit of searching, Joyce finally spotted an empty parking space and quickly maneuvered her car toward it. Just then, another car swooped in from the side.
"Whoa!"
Her car jolted, and Joyce's heart skipped a beat—had they just collided?
She hurriedly stopped the car and jumped out to check what had happened.
"What the heck?"
The other driver, a burly man, got out and started yelling, "How are you even driving?"
What?
Joyce was taken aback, a mix of disbelief and amusement on her face. "Sir, your car hit mine! Is this really how you're going to play it?"
"That's nonsense!"
The man, towering and intimidating, bellowed, "I was almost in the spot, but you just had to squeeze in!"
"Sir! Let's not twist the facts here!" Joyce replied, exasperated.
"Cut the crap!" He waved his massive hand dismissively, as if he might just slap her with it. "Just admit it! How are you gonna pay for my car's damage?"
"What?" Joyce was dumbfounded. "Are you serious right now?"
"Enough talking!" He clenched his fists, waving one at her. "Are you paying or not? Because you ain't going anywhere until you do!"
"You..."
Sensing things were going south, Joyce quickly reached for her phone, intending to call the police.
"What are you doing?"
But the man snatched her phone away before she could.
"Hand it over! Trying to call the cops? Not happening—"
He didn't finish his sentence; a sharp yelp cut through the air.
"What?" Joyce looked up.
Behind the man stood a younger guy, towering over him by at least a head.
Though he seemed lean, he had effortlessly grabbed the man's arm, rendering him helpless.
"Ouch, let go! Who are you? Let go! You're gonna break my arm!"
