They arrived at the hospital.

After registering at the ER and a round of tests, the doctor concluded that, apart from a touch of anemia, Sherilyn was perfectly fine.

“I told you, I didn’t need to see a doctor,” she muttered.

Gilbert offered a placating smile. “Still, it’s better to be sure.”

A faint restlessness stirred in Sherilyn’s chest. She asked again, “Where’s Naomi?”

He gestured down the hall. “Over there. Relax, I’m not keeping her from you.”

A short distance away, Naomi stood sandwiched between two security guards, looking nervous and out of place.

At Gilbert’s nod, Naomi came over at once.

“Sherilyn…” As soon as Naomi saw Gilbert beside her, she lowered her head like a mouse caught by the cat. “Mr… Mr. Harrison.”

“Naomi,” Sherilyn addressed her, stepping forward and meeting her gaze.

She had questions that needed answers. “On Mr. Harrison’s wedding anniversary, did you get a letter from Karol?”

“A letter?” Naomi looked confused, her mind blank. “No, I didn’t.”

“You didn’t?” Sherilyn frowned. “Think carefully. Did you receive anything that day? Something to pass on to me?”

Naomi tried to recall, then her eyes lit up in realization. “Oh! Now I remember! There was something, but it wasn’t from Karol. It was from one of your fans, I think. And it wasn’t a letter—it was a little handmade coin purse, wrapped up in a gift box. I brought it over and left it in the lounge.”

“A coin purse?” Sherilyn repeated, thoughtful.

Suddenly, she opened her handbag and pulled out a small coin purse. “Was it this one?”

She recognized it immediately—it was a gift from a fan. It was beautiful and she’d taken to using it for her keys and earbuds.

“That’s it! Yes!” Naomi nodded vigorously.

Sherilyn’s brow furrowed.

She had opened the box herself—there had been no letter inside, she was sure of it.

“Naomi,” she pressed, needing to be certain. “Are you sure that was the only thing you picked up that day?”
