Whispers Turn to Whimpers: Could He Ever Change? novel Chapter 472

“Haha, yeah.”

Jenna snuggled up to her mom, feeling completely content.

“Close your eyes.” Sherilyn bent down to kiss her daughter, “Time to sleep, Jenna, along with the moon.”

Obediently, Jenna closed her eyes, her long lashes resting on her lower eyelids like tiny fans.

“Mommy.” The tiny fans trembled slightly, her voice muffled, “If only... if only he could be Daddy.”

At those words, Sherilyn shuddered, gazing down at her daughter in her arms.

Had Jenna really said that? Did she really, truly like Gilbert that much?

As her daughter slowly fell into a peaceful sleep, Sherilyn felt a sense of loss, unable to sleep for a long time.

...

The next day, Sherilyn didn't ask Gilbert to pick her up from the dance studio. He had a dinner party, so she went to Golden Oak Manor herself.

Leaving the hospital, Elijah told her that Jenna's condition was more stable this time. After tomorrow's treatment, she could be discharged.

She knew well it was all thanks to Gilbert's medicine.

Arriving at Golden Oak Manor earlier than usual, Sherilyn stopped by the supermarket to pick up a few things.

When Gilbert got home, he was greeted by a sweet, cloying scent wafting from the kitchen.

Glancing in that direction, he was surprised to see a slender figure – it was Sherilyn.

He diverted his steps towards the kitchen.

There, Sherilyn was bustling about in an apron, her long hair loosely tied up in a bun and secured with a pencil, looking as beautiful as ever.

But Gilbert frowned, slightly annoyed. “Why are you the one bustling about? Where's the maid? It's this late, haven't you eaten yet?”

“You're back.”

Sherilyn looked up, brushing a stray hair behind her ear and replying, “She finished her duties, so I let her leave early.”

Anticipating his misunderstanding, she added with a smile, “She had prepared dinner before leaving, I've eaten.”

“What's wrong?” Sherilyn asked, puzzled, “Don't you believe me?”

“It's not that...”

Gilbert shook his head and suddenly bent down to pull her into his embrace.

“Sherilyn, thank you. You've gone to such trouble.”

Sherilyn was surprised, smiling lightly, “It's not a hassle at all, quite simple, really. It's hardly any trouble.”

Gilbert couldn't help but smile, the situation might be simple, but what mattered was Sherilyn's thoughtfulness.

"Sherilyn."

Gilbert gently held her chin, “Do you like me?”

He knew she had feelings for Edgar once, maybe she hadn't completely gotten over him... But what about him?

“Have you, maybe, started to like me a bit?”
