As Gilbert walked by, his gaze immediately fell on Jenna, who was seated near the window, her little legs swinging back and forth in a child's high chair.
He couldn't help but smile. "Mr. Miller, if you'll excuse me for a moment, I see a friend I'd like to greet."
"By all means, Mr. Johnson."
With a slight nod, Gilbert made his way into the diner.
"Mr. Johnson!" Sophia was the first to spot him, standing up to greet him warmly.
"Hello there."
Gilbert returned the smile, turning to Jenna, "Lovely Jenna, we meet again."
"Sir!"
Struggling in the high chair, Jenna stretched her arms out eagerly, and Gilbert, laughing, lifted her into his arms.
He examined her closely; the little one seemed to be in good spirits.
"Jenna, have you been feeling okay lately?"
The question was directed at Jenna, but it was really meant for Sophia.
"Yes! I've been doing great."
Sophia chimed in, "Ever since we left the hospital last time, Jenna's been taking her medication on schedule and getting her shots at the hospital every few days. She's been really good, thanks to you."
Gilbert squeezed Jenna's tiny hand, "As long as Jenna is doing fine."
"Sir." Jenna snuggled into his chest, whispering, "Sir, do you have a girlfriend?"
"Hmm?" Gilbert was taken aback, raising an eyebrow. Why would the little one ask something like that?
Jenna mumbled, "Can Jenna introduce you to someone, pretty please?"
"Jenna..." Gilbert was surprised.
"Sir!" Seemingly worried he might refuse, Jenna became anxious. "It's my mom! She's really pretty, even prettier than me! Mom had to use the restroom, but she'll be back soon! Can you wait, please?"
"Jenna!" Sophia was mortified. "Don't talk nonsense!"
"I'm not!" Jenna was bold, "Don't you believe me, sir?"
Gilbert couldn't help but chuckle, "Of course, I believe you, Jenna. But you see, I already have a girlfriend."
