Back to Golden Oak Manor.
The car came to a halt, and without waiting for Gilbert, Sherilyn pushed the door open and stepped out on her own.
Gilbert paused, a silent scoff escaping him, perplexed by her pride.
By the time he entered the living room, Sherilyn had already made her way upstairs. Gilbert, a step behind, paused as he passed the master bedroom but ultimately turned towards the study instead.
He had barely settled down when his phone rang.
It was Caroline.
"Hey?" Gilbert swiped to answer.
"Gilbert," Caroline began, just leaving the TV station, calling him from her car. "I went to the archives, you guys had already left... Everything okay with you and Sherilyn?"
Gilbert remained silent, offering no reply.
Seems like trouble?
Caroline hesitated before speaking, "I wanted to ask, is this a regular thing with Sherilyn and Edgar?"
Regular thing? As in, do they meet often?
Gilbert didn't respond, his expression growing even more irate.
"Gilbert…"
As if worried for him, Caroline cautiously continued, "I might be speaking out of turn, but for your sake, I have to bring this up…"
"Are you sure it was only this one time? What are the odds it happened just when we stumbled upon them?"
With a sigh, Caroline added, "I warned you from the start... She’s not truly into you... I told you not to dive in headfirst…"
Before she could finish, Gilbert cut her off, "Caroline, it’s late. You should head back and get some rest."
Then, he hung up.
"Gilbert?" Caroline, still holding her phone, couldn't help but smile slightly.
Had she lost to Sherilyn? Not necessarily.
Coming from a similar background, she had arrived at the Johnson family before Sherilyn.
If she wasn’t happy, why should Sherilyn get to be?
Meanwhile, Gilbert, phone in hand, pondered over Caroline's call… Was Sherilyn really seeing Edgar often?
