"What's going on? Is he still the same as yesterday?"
Caroline glanced at Sherilyn, "Maybe you're just exhausted from taking care of Gilbert, Sherilyn. Did you see it wrong? Or maybe, you said it just to cheer Grandma up?"
Hearing this, Sylvia's expression darkened, "Sherilyn, is that true?"
"No." Sherilyn shook her head in denial, giving Caroline an exasperated look, "I wasn't the only one who saw it; the nurse did too."
"Yes."
The nurse raised her hand slightly, nodding and speaking softly, "Sylvia, I was there. I saw it too. Mr. Gilbert indeed moved."
"What about now..."
"Sylvia."
The door to the hospital room opened, and the head doctor came in, "You're here. I was away for a moment, sorry about that."
"It's alright." Sylvia hurriedly said, "Please, tell us about Gilbert's condition."
"Sure."
The doctor shared, "I've just examined Mr. Gilbert, and his limbs have shown voluntary movement."
"What does that mean?"
"It means, you can relax, Mr. Gilbert isn't in a vegetative coma."
Sylvia breathed a sigh of relief, "That's wonderful."
But her concern remained, "When will he wake up?"
"Sylvia, I can't guarantee that, but Mr. Gilbert is indeed improving. What he needs is more patience and companionship from his family."
"Alright."
Sylvia turned, taking Sherilyn by the hand.
"Sherilyn, Grandma was just worried earlier, don't take it to heart. I owe you an apology. I know you've been working hard."
"See, it's necessary for you to be here. Gilbert's gotten much better since you arrived. He knows when you're here."
"Grandma, you're exaggerating."
The doctor chuckled, adding, "Sylvia is right, Ms. Gomez. Don't doubt it; you've played an indispensable role."
In the hospital, we've seen too many people hanging on just to wait for someone...
