Before Sherilyn could add another word, he took her hand, guiding her out of the hospital ward, and drove her back to her apartment in Sunset Ridge Community.

The car pulled up in front of the apartment building.

Gilbert followed her out, escorting her to her apartment door. “Try to get some rest. I’ll come by first thing tomorrow morning.”

Hearing this, Sherilyn looked up at him in surprise. “Aren’t you tired?”

Her tone was gentle, considerate. Running back and forth like this, wouldn’t he get exhausted, if not a bit irritated?

“Caroline really needs you right now. You should focus on taking care of her.”

Gilbert’s brow furrowed slightly, his voice tightening, “Are you testing me? Or is this another way for you to bring up breaking up?”

He stared intently at her face, trying to read any sign of discontent.

But there wasn’t any.

“You’ve got it all wrong.”

Sherilyn chuckled lightly, shaking her head, “Me, break up with you? Jenna still needs you... I’m just worried you’re overexerting yourself, that’s all...”

“Ha.”

The man couldn’t help but scoff, lifting his hand to cradle her chin, his fingertips gently caressing her soft cheek.

“I know I’m not in your heart, no need to remind me over and over again in different ways.”

He lowered his head, his warm breath caressing her face, “What’s the game plan here? You think by provoking me time and again, I’ll just let you go? Not happening. Get some sleep.”

Returning from Sunset Ridge Community to the hospital, Francis got the news and rushed over.

“Big brother.”

“Yeah.” Francis glanced at his brother. “I’ve got all the details. What’s the plan moving forward?”

Gilbert’s expression was clouded with concern, at this point, all they could do was their best.

He said, “It’s too late tonight. I’ve already had Charles reach out to specialists at various hospitals in Sunhaven. They’ll come over for a consultation tomorrow, and we’ll see how that goes.”

After hearing him out, Francis nodded, agreeing that was the best course of action for now.
