Holding Sherilyn close, Gilbert felt as though nothing else mattered. He envisioned a future with his own family, his own home. The heaviness that had weighed down his heart finally lifted, returning to its rightful place in his chest.
"Sherilyn..." His voice mingled with the sound of Sherilyn's phone ringing.
"Phone."
Sherilyn glanced at the caller ID, gently extricating herself from his embrace to stand up. "I'll take this outside."
"Okay."
Gilbert nodded, assuming it was a call from the production team and didn't give it much thought.
But he was mistaken. It wasn't the production team; it was the hospital lab. The results for the compatibility test must be in.
"Hello?" Sherilyn stepped out of the room, her heart pounding, holding her breath. "This is Sherilyn."
"The compatibility results are in. You're a match."
Sherilyn's heart skipped a beat, a wave of emotion welling up so quickly it blurred her vision.
"Is this...?"
She was too overwhelmed to complete her sentence. The doctor on the other end, understanding her emotional state, spoke with a hint of a smile.
"It's true, genuinely good news. Your child... there's hope now."
Sherilyn covered her mouth, afraid she might let out a cry. Choking back tears, she managed, "Th-thank you."
"No need for thanks. You should be grateful to the gentleman who matched. For specifics, you should talk to Dr. Neil."
"Alright."
Hanging up the phone, Sherilyn clutched it tightly, her hands trembling slightly. Initially, she hadn't dared to hope too much. After all, even she and Gilbert couldn't match for Jenna! And Galen was only Jenna's uncle! But against all odds, they were a match!
This was the best news imaginable! Jenna had a chance now!
But then, there was Galen...
