Gilbert rose and quickly entered the bathroom, returning with a damp towel in his hand, gently wiping her face.
But her tears wouldn't stop.
"Sherilyn," Gilbert's voice was thick with emotion, from his heart to his nose, "please, no more tears. You're going to hurt your eyes."
"How can I not cry?"
Sherilyn shook her head, "Jenna is still so young, she just had surgery..."
Suddenly, she looked up, glaring at him fiercely.
"It's you! It's all your fault! Why did you have to be Jenna's father? You weren't there when she was born, you haven't raised her! And yet, because of you, she has to suffer like this!"
"It's my fault." Gilbert hung his head, offering no defense. "I've let you and Jenna down..."
"What good does sorry do?"
Sherilyn reached up, grabbing his shirt, her eyes burning with anger, "Give me back my Jenna! Give her back to me! Oh..."
Feeling weak, her vision began to darken, her strength fading.
"Sherilyn?"
Gilbert, realizing she was fainting, quickly caught her, "Calm down! Lie down, rest for a bit!"
Saying so, he helped her to lay down.
Sherilyn's head was spinning, so she simply closed her eyes, refusing to look at him.
Gilbert gazed down at her pale face, clenching his fists in silence...
Time ticked by slowly.
For both parents, every second was excruciatingly long.
Gilbert stood up, intending to get a blanket for Sherilyn, not wanting her to catch cold as she lay there.
"Where are you going?"
However, as soon as he moved, Sherilyn opened her eyes, her gaze bright, "Is there news about Jenna?"
"No..."
Gilbert frowned, shaking his head helplessly, "I'm getting you a blanket."
"..." Sherilyn seemed not to understand, staring at him blankly, "Why are you still here?"
Saying so, she sat up from the couch.
Pushing him towards the door, "Don't stay here! Go find Jenna! Hurry!"
"Sherilyn?"
