Natalie’s brow creased as she listened to Madelyn’s biting words. 

“What exactly is going on between you and Brian? Do I need to remind you?” Madelyn continued with a sneer. 

A memory of a conversation with Gracia flashed through Natalie’s mind. Gracia had confided that Madelyn had paid someone to run her off the road, causing her miscarriage. 

Natalie was beginning to believe it was indeed Madelyn. 

Seeing Natalie silent, Madelyn stepped closer, her voice icy. “I am Nate’s biological mother. Only Brian and I can be a family. Do you understand? I suggest you get real and stop entertaining those foolish fantasies. Brian’s obsession with you is just an obsession. With me, it’s the real deal.‘ 

Natalie looked at her and suddenly laughed. “Even if you’re Nate’s mother, so what?” 

“Did you not know that Brian’s planning to transfer the deed of Majestic Meadows Manor into my name?” 

Madelyn paused, her voice dropping an octave. “What did you say?” 

“It’s just waiting on my signature,” Natalie said, slightly arching her brow. “I didn’t want to sign, but I’ve decided I will for your sake. Then, as the rightful owner of the house, I will order you to 

leave.” 

“You…” Madelyn’s face flushed with rage as she raised her hand to slap Natalie. But her hand got caught in a vice–like grip before it touched Natalie’s cheek. 

“Let go of me!” Madelyn shrieked in pain. 

Natalie’s lips curled into a cold smile as she whispered, “Looks like you haven’t had enough slaps yet!” 

Madelyn was about to retort when she suddenly lost her balance, struggling free from Natalie’s grip and tumbling headfirst into the pond! 

Natalie reached out but couldn’t catch her in time, her heart sinking. 

Footsteps hurried over, and someone shoved Natalie aside, shouting, “What are you doing? Why did you push her into the pond? Madelyn can’t swim!” 

“Help! Madelyn’s fallen into the pond!” 

As Madelyn thrashed about in the water, screaming for help, the commotion drew people’s attention from the nearby diner, who rushed over.

Natalie hesitated a little before tossing aside what was in her hands, kicking off her shoes, and

Madelyn couldn’t swim and clung to Natalie’s hair like a lifeline, desperately trying to keep her head above water, gasping for air. 

When Brian arrived, Madelyn had been pulled out, but Natalie was still in the water, pale as a ghost, seemingly unable to swim to shore.
