Chapter 81
Seconds ticked by before she gave a self–deprecating chuckle, continuing to type the unfinished password to unlock her laptop, trying to decipher the tracking code on her cellphone.
She was on the verge of a breakthrough. Her counter–tracking code was nearly complete.
It was past 2 a.m.
Natalie tried running the almost–finished program, and it worked like a charm.
Once this counter–tracking code was launched, not only would the other party be unable to receive her location, but they would also be subjected to her surveillance. This way, she could uncover their true identity.
She booted up her phone and fed the program into it using a USB cable.
The reverse assault of the virus code would take a moment, so Natalie casually flipped open her messaging app to check her messages. Rosie had texted her two hours ago, concerned about the severity of her family issues and wondering if she needed to take a few more days off.
Natalie pondered before replying. “If it doesn’t mess with the shooting schedule, give me three more days.”
She needed that time to sort out the mess at Bluestar.
“Can do. Three days is no issue,” came Rosie’s swift reply.
Natalie’s phone dinged right after she chatted with Rosie, indicating the transfer was complete. Natalie promptly put on her headphones and initiated the counter–tracking program.
In mere seconds, the exact location of the other party popped up on her screen. It was a hospital ward.
She frowned involuntarily. Wasn’t it the same hospital where King was receiving treatment? Could it be King?
The night deepened, and all was silent on the other end. Natalie listened patiently for over ten minutes, barely making out the faint, steady breathing sound.
Just as she was about to remove her headphones, a soft rustle of footsteps mingled with the slight noise of a door opening reached her ears.
Instantly, Natalie tensed, firing up her laptop’s recording software and cranking the volume in her headphones to the max.
“I’m sorry, but the Truth Group has destroyed the documents you wanted in this afternoon’s explosion,” a voice spoke softly from the other end.
The day before, when Natalie hacked the rival company’s internal systems, she’d discovered they had the confidential data of her group’s core members. That was a huge problem.
Luckily, the data download indicated it had happened two days prior and had not been transferred to any other device. Natalie had used her virus code to obliterate the data.
Her brow furrowed. Natalie recognized the voice in her headphones, which was too familiar, someone who worked closely with her day in and day out!
She hadn’t expected to accidentally eavesdrop on this conversation, catching red–handed. evidence of a Truth Group traitor dealing with someone else!
The traitor continued, “But I can give you a definite lead. FireWing is young and from Streamville like you, about five feet seven inches tall. FireWing usually disguises her voice, but I suspect FireWing is a woman.”
