Chapter 123 Real or Fake
But no, Emelle couldn’t do that.
It was not an option.
She still had parents. She couldn’t abandon everything.
#you took my mother’s heart, stole her chance to live. That’s anondisputed fact. Because of you, I might lose Mom
“If you have even a shred of humanity left, you’d stop. What good does it do you by driving me to extremes?”
“An undeniable fact,” William repeated, mocking “You Insist on believing that”
Emelie wished she didn’t have to believe it.
But she believed it was as Daphne had told her today. That heart was now beating in Daphne’s father’s chest!
Samuel steadied her shoulders. Emelle was indeed trembling with anger.
He said in a deep voice, “I have a way to verify Ms. Hoven had been pregnant or had a miscarriage.”
All eyes tumed to him.
“It’s simple. Checking her pulse will make it clear.” Samuel continued.
“you can read pulses?” William’s tone was skeptical.
“He doubted Samuel’s capability and whether he’d cover for Emelie if she weren’t truthful.
Samuel replied calmly, “My brother, Nehemiah, is a renowned traditional medicine practitioner. Mr. Middleton, perhaps you’ve heard of him.
“I’ve learned pulse–talding from him. He praised my skills enough to suggest I could run a clinic myself.
“Although I never did, it’s still easy for me to diagnose if someone has been pregnant or had a miscarriage by reading their pulse.”
William’s gaze lingered on Samuel’s hand around Emelie’s shoulders.
His expression was icy, but he didn’t say anything.
It was probably an implicit consent.
Samuel whispered to Emelie, “Trust me this time.”
Emelle sighed deeply and followed him to the couch
Samuelchecked her pulse, listening intently for a few minutes
Then, the motioned for her to offer her other hand, repeating the process.
“No wonder your voice sounded hoarse today, Were you coughing the last couple of days?”
Mona exclaimed, “You can tell that from the pulse? Emelie got sick from all the running around for job interviews recently.
“she had a bad cough and only started feeling better yesterday.”
Her words were meant for William to hear, too.
But William remained silent
“I’ve learned well.” The hint of a smile faded from Samuel’s expression
“Deficiencies in both energy and blood. You miscarried before reaching one month of pregnancy.
“The abortion wasn’t complete, so you needed a D&C surgery. It has left your body weakened due to no proper post–operative care.
Emelie recalled the pain of the surgery, frowning, “Yes..”
Sammel adjusted his glasses and addressed William. “Ms. Hoven miscarried three to four months ago.
“Mr. Middleton, if you doubt my diagnosis, feel free to seek a second opinion. But I am confident the result will be the same.”
William gazed at Emelie on the couch, his emotions inscrutable.
“The miscarriage has affected Ms. Hoven’s health. She’s fallen ill twice in just a week Now, with this devastating news about her family, she’s barely holding on.
“She’s just forcing herself. But if she lets up, she’ll fall severely ill again.”
Samuell spoke up for Emelle. “Mr. Middleton, as the saying goes, ‘to forgive is a sign of strength and compassion.”
william still remained silent.
Daphne’s gaze shifted between the two, biting her lip anxiously. She covered her face and hissed in pain.
She tugged at William’s sleeve. “Mr. Middleton, my face hurts, Can you take me back to the hospital?”
Even as he left, William didn’t Indicate whether he believed Samuel.
Emelie guessed he probably didn’t believe them.
