Winning Her Heart Back (Emelie and William) novel Chapter 866

Emelie had always known that Jodie reported everything to Wesley. So, whether it was Lyle stopping by that night or her spending nearly a full day and night at Sunnington Hill, Wesley would probably know despite being all the way in Mercianna.

That meant he knew what Lyle had told her, and exactly what had gone down with William. He hadn't called in the last two days, most likely because he didn't know how to approach her, until now.

Emelie's eyes locked on her phone screen, where the words "Mr. Cronus" flashed in bright letters. She wondered what he wanted to say, but at the same time, she really wasn't in the mood to find out.

After she let it ring for a good ten seconds, she calmly reached over and pressed the decline button.

She hit the recline button on her chair and leaned back, letting it lower slowly into a more comfortable position.

Emelie leaned back and tried to relax, but her nerves wouldn't let her. Even after a few minutes of silence, the tension still buzzed beneath her skin.

She picked up her phone and typed out a quick message to Wesley. "I'm busy right now. I'll get back to you when I can."

His reply came almost instantly. "Okay."

She unbuttoned the top two buttons of her blouse, hoping to shake the tight, suffocating feeling that had crept in. But it clung to her stubbornly and unrelentingly.

Emelie walked over to the mini-fridge, grabbed a cold bottle of water, and took a long sip. It didn't help. The frustration still lingered, gnawing at her.

She absentmindedly scratched her shoulder and noticed the bite mark that William had left was almost gone now.

She sighed and returned to her desk.

She stared at her phone for a moment. Then, without thinking too hard about it, she dialed William's number.

William had been even busier than Emelie these past few days.

The Xanther Group's stock was in freefall, and it was dragging the Cloudex Corporation down with it. So, he had spent hours in tense board meetings, listening to grown men bicker like children. Their heated arguments filled the room.

William remained detached, offering little input, as if the fate of the once-mighty Cloudex barely concerned him.

When his phone buzzed, he paused for just a moment before grabbing it. Without a second thought, he rose from his seat. He ignored the red-faced executives still going at it and stepped into the hallway.

The tension slipped from his shoulders as he answered the call.

"Angel," he said, his voice low but unmistakably warm.

Emelie's voice was as cold and composed as ever. "You got 30 minutes. Shower and meet me at my office."
