She didn't have the patience to waste any more time on him. "Alright, Mr. Collins. Answer my questions, and I'll make sure to turn you over to the authorities in a very public manner.

"Everyone will know that you were handed to the police alive, which means even the powerful people that you've angered wouldn't dare harm you now. At least you'll walk away with your life.

"But if you refuse to cooperate… I'll let you go, sure, but I'll immediately reveal your location. And being abroad makes it all the easier for them to finish the job."

Beathan was still seated on the floor as he laughed bitterly. "Emelie, are you really this foolish, or do you just take me for a fool? These people have countless ways to kill me. Just because you're good at stirring public opinion doesn't mean you actually believe that's going to save me."

Emelie leaned back in her chair and said, "So, you're choosing the second option? Fine, I respect your choice. Jodie, spread the word. Tell them a prominent lawyer has just arrived in Esnua."

Beathan froze for a second before muttering under his breath, "So, this is what you wanted to ask."

Emelie's expression remained cold. "I've asked Charles. I've asked Samuel. I've asked William. And now I'm asking you."

"This is what you want to know…" Beathan mumbled to himself, his lips curling into a strange grin. "It was William, of course."
