Wolf-less Omega Luna novel Chapter 82

Axel’s POV

Something about listening to Alana speaking to the pack with such a powerful aura and confidence made me realize that I was the luckiest man alive.

She had grown so much from what she was when we first found each other. She had helped me grow in areas I didn’t think I needed growth.

Alana showed me the importance of the little things and the big things. She made me realize that life was what we made it. She saw the good in everything and everyone. She did —saw the good— in me.

I couldn’t be more proud of her, and my cock couldn’t be harder. I had to tell myself that now wasn't the time.

Whenever I thought of the kind of Luna she was, I knew she was going to be an even better mother. The joy and gratitude I felt was almost suffocating.

Now, two days later, I was heading the males of the pack in the renovation of the pack house. Most of the things we needed in the pack, we got them done by ourselves. One reason for that was that we had more manpower than any other pack did, but it was mainly to conserve our resources.

But instead of focusing on the task at hand, all I did was steal glances at Alana who was in nothing but baggy jeans and t-shirts, assessing the foodstuff in the pack house.

Over the last two days, she had taken her role of looking over the pack omegas very seriously. She started by going shopping with Emily for new supplies for the omegas who couldn’t afford them with the card I gifted her months ago.

I wasn’t surprised by that. Alana hardly spent any of the money unless it was extremely important or it was for something other than her personal expenses. That didn’t stop me from pumping more money into it for her.

The next thing she did was take permission from me to call for a meeting with those in charge of the packs’ farms to see how they could increase the amount of proceeds from the farms that went to the pack house even if it meant reducing the quantity used for trade.

I couldn’t help but watch her in her prime, doing what she could to make our pack better for its members.

A few times, I would catch her staring at me too. She looked so beautiful. By far the most beautiful woman I had seen in all my years. I’d gotten a front-row ticket to always look at Alana’s deep violet eyes and her lustrous auburn hair for months but I hadn’t gotten enough. I didn't think I ever would.

Till now, whenever her eyes lit up with a smile, or her hair bounced when she laughed at something someone said, I got stuck on her like a rabbit in headlights.

Someone’s voice pulled me from my slobbering session and I had to wipe the invisible drool off the corner of my lips. It wasn’t Tyler’s voice. He had been given some days off. It was Benjamin, another high-ranked wolf who was filling in for him for the time being.

“Yes?” I asked because I didn’t hear what he initially said.

He glanced over at Alana who was now staring at us before turning back to me. “Alistair is at the pack gate. He’s requested to see you and the Luna.”

Immediately, blood rushed to my head and my entire demeanor changed.

Alistair was the only loose end that I needed to tie. Fury flooded me that he even thought about Alana and mentioned her name. His tongue was coming off for that.

I dropped the tools that were in my hands as fur started to sprout at the back of my neck. “Let’s go.”

“I’m coming with,” Alana appeared by myself, falling into my stride. I halted abruptly and felt a frown drawing my eyebrows together.

“You’re staying.”

“I’m coming.” She crossed her hands over her chest and balanced on one foot.

“Alana, you’re not going anywhere. Stay here, I’ll handle him and come back before you know it.”

The days when I would put Alana in harm's way were over by a fucking stretch. Alistair calling for Alana couldn’t have had any good intentions attached to it. And with her carrying our child, I’d rather have my eyes gouged out than let Alistair smell her.

“I’m not worried about you not coming back,” she shook her head as though I was speaking gibberish. “He asked to see me, and I want to know why.”

“And his reasons for that can’t be good. I’ll find out why and let you know when I get back.”

“I’m coming, Axel. Whatever he has to say, I want to hear it. And if he has planned anything, I can protect myself even if you’re not there. I did it before with Jake when I shot him, and I can do it again. I need closure too, Axel.”

She was right, but that didn’t make me any less uncomfortable. I groaned in frustration as I called her name. “Alana.”

“Axel. We could do this all day. I’m coming.”

After a minute of intense silence and staring, I gave in. “Fine. But you stay behind me throughout. You do not leave my sight.”

“Why would I want to?” She unclasped her hands and linked one with mine. “Let’s go,” she said, and we left.

Whatever reason Alistair could’ve had for coming back here was none of my concern. If he had the slightest form of mischief up his sleeves, he was going to leave my pack a dead man.

We drove to the pack borders and packed the car a little distance from the gate. I linked my left hand with Alana’s own again and we walked the remaining distance with Benjamin trailing behind us.

The defenses had been fortified over the last few days but more of the pack guards were on standby today, understandably so.

One of the gates was opened and Alistair’s face came into view.

“Hello, Alpha Axel,” he greeted first with his sinister smile.

“Why the fuck are you here?” I thundered. One thing I learned over the last weeks was not to waste time with anything that had to do with a threat.

He lifted his hands in surrender and cast a glance at Alana. “I just want to talk.”

I see. Really. Does he, now?
