Wooing My ex-wife (Gwendolyn and Maverick) novel Chapter 344

Chapter 344 Having Morning Sickness In Public

His sparkling eyes that were filled with passion were pinned on her, yet she turned away, refusing to look at him

The coat that was forcefully draped over her did not make her feel warm, she felt chilly instead.

Removing the coat, she returned it to him and said. “The banquet’s starting soon. You should put it on since you’re going upstage later. Besides, the heater in the hall is turned on. I won’t be feeling cold in there.”

A look of surprise and delight flashed past Charles’ eyes. “Are you worried about me, Gwen?”

His reaction only filled her with disgust and rage. Frowning, she lowered her gaze to conceal her emotions while stuffing the coat into his arms.

Charles reached out to take the coat and put it on as instructed.

At the same time, his charming face lit up with a bright smile. “This is great. I’m looking forward to our life in the future.”

Gwendolyn did not share his joy. She merely pursed her lips and ignored him. Thinking of the plan later made her grind her teeth in silence.

The spacious banquet hall was filled with royals.

Suddenly, the violin band seated in the corner of the hall changed their tune, and the lights dimmed, except for the flickering red candles on the long table..

Following that, the spotlight was turned on, and everyone’s gaze fell on the spiraling stairs.

Kylie, dressed in an elegant dress inlaid with gold, stood on the highest step, smiling and giving the crowd a graceful wave.

The banquet was organized by her, hence making her the main character that night.

Rounds of applause and words of praise filled the air the moment she appeared.

As the crowd continued to shower her with flattery, she held the sturdy marble railing and slowly descended the stairs.

The spotlight followed her figure until she arrived at the center of the stage, where a microphone was placed. With a graceful wave of Kylie’s hand, all the applause and chatter came to a halt.

Gwendolyn watched and listened quietly to Kylie’s mandatory speech, occasionally applauding along with

the crowd.

“Truth is, there’s an announcement I’d like to make with everyone here.” Kylie’s eyes searched the crowd until they found Charles and Gwendolyn.

As if reading her mind, the person controlling the spotlight shifted it to the couple.

Seeing that, Charles immediately held Gwendolyn’s hand.

Gwendolyn’s reflexes told her to free her hand, but the man held it so tightly that she could barely

struggle.

Since all eyes were on them, Gwendolyn quickly recollected herself and plastered a subtle smile, looking shy and nervous instead of the disgust she felt when trying to pull her hand out.

The crowd tactfully opened up a path on the red carpet so Charles could walk up the stage while pulling Gwendolyn along.

Still standing on the stage. Kylie continued announcing into the microphone. “My adopted son, Vidar Lund, and this lady from Chanaca, Ms. Gwendolyn Shalder’s Harris, will be getting married at Flola Grand Cathedral in seven days.”

A loud applause boomed in the hall.

Upon arriving on stage, Charles let go of Gwendolyn’s hand and gave Kylie a hug to show their close relationship.

Back then, the royal family had kept her conception, which happened before the wedding ceremony, a secret. Moreover, she was the only sister to the current king as well as the most distinguished person in the whole of Erihal.

Hence, no one dared to doubt Charles’ identity, even if they noticed how similar his eyes and brows were to Kylie’s.

When everyone was impressed with how lucky Charles was, Gerhardt merely drank alone in his seat.

Alas, everyone’s attention was captured by the spotlight; no one noticed his darkened expression and his eyes that burned with rage.

Sitting beside him was Caesar, who rested his chin on one hand, sighing and gazing at Gwendolyn with a look of melancholy.

After Charles had finished hugging Kylie on the stage, he took the microphone from her and spoke loud and clear.

“Gwen and I have known each other for over a decade, and I’ve loved her during all those years. Now, I finally have the chance to become her husband. I swear to all of you we’ll live happily for the rest of our lives.”

At that, he turned to give Gwendolyn a gaze and extended his arm. “Come here.”

Gwendolyn merely remained in her spot and stared at him mutely.

At that moment, all eyes were fixed on the stage.

The music in the hall had stopped, and compliments from the young noble ladies traveled to Gwendolyn’s

ears.

“This lady’s so pretty. She and Vidar look so good. What a perfect match!”

“Do you believe it? They loved each other for over a decade. What kind of love story is this? They’re so sweet!”

A perfect match? Loved each other for over a decade? Gwendolyn scoffed inwardly. How touching. I bet even Charles is beginning to believe his own lies, too.

“Don’t be shy, Gwen. Come here,” came his gentle voice, his exquisite blue eyes brimming with affection.

Putting a lid on her negative emotions. Gwendolyn played along by curling her hips and made her way toward Charles with her heels clicking on the ground

She then reached out to slip her hand into his

Just when they were about to touch, a frown marred Gwendolyn’s face, and she covered her mouth in discomfort.

Since the microphone was relatively close to her, it amplified her retching sounds.

Every person in the hall heard it loud and clear.

The smile on Charles’ face vanished instantly, and his hand hung in the air.

While standing in front of everyone, Gwendolyn murmured shyly, “I was planning to break the good news

to you after the wedding, but it looks like the baby won’t allow it-”

The nauseating feeling engulfed her again, making her run down the stage to use the restroom.

Charles froze in place, stunned by what he heard.

After all, only he knew how sarcastic her words were.

His eyes were red-rimmed, and his body remained stiff in the same spot for what seemed to be a long time.

The nobles, who were unaware of the details, merely thought he was too surprised by the news.
