Wooing My ex-wife (Gwendolyn and Maverick) novel Chapter 355

The wait for the day of the wedding was an extreme torment for Gwendolyn.

She spent the last two days in a daze.

The night before the wedding, Charles had someone deliver the wedding dress to her place.

She found it ironic as she stroked the expensive wedding dress in front of her.

Although this would be her first wedding ceremony, it was actually her second time wearing a wedding dress.

She had thought she wouldn’t have any chance to put it on again. Little did she expect that she would wear it and get married to someone whom she didn’t love.

Charles stood at the door of her room and stared at her in silence. “Gwen, do you like it? The most famous designer in Erihal used a week to design it. This is the only piece in the world.”

Gwendolyn withdrew her hand and sat on the edge of the bed with an indifferent expression on her face. “What’s the matter?”

“I kept my word. I’ve been looking after Nico these days. He’s almost recovered now. You don’t have to worry about him.”

Gwendolyn let out a sigh of relief and said nothing more.

“I’ll release Nico from jail once we have officially held our wedding ceremony. When we enjoy our pleasant moment at night, I’ll get someone to give him the antidote and send him back to Chanaea.”

“Okay.” Expressionlessly, she covered herself with the blanket. “You can go back to Alzer Palace. I’m sleepy now. I want to call it a night.”

“All right. I won’t disturb your rest, then. Goodnight, Gwen.”

Gwendolyn ignored him. Charles closed her bedroom door and left.

As soon as he left, Gwendolyn sat up at once. She fixed her eyes on the small plane Asher had given her on the dressing table.

If Charles really wanted to sleep with her in the same bed after Nico received the antidote tomorrow, she would perish with him.

Everything will be over soon!

At the same time, someone entered the dungeon with a decree of pardon.

Nico was half-asleep when he heard the sound of the dungeon door opening.

A foreign-looking man dressed as a guard walked in.

Nico became clear-headed at once and immediately sat up. He narrowed his eyes vigilantly and asked, “That b*stard can’t wait any longer and has sent you to kill me, huh?”

The guard handed him the decree of pardon. “You’ve been released. I’m here to bring you out.”

Nico looked at the decree carefully, feeling at a loss. “Why did Lord Gerhardt release me?”

“Come on. You’ll know the answer soon.” The guard uncuffed the heavy shackles on Nico’s legs.

With the help of the guard, Nico walked out of the dungeon with heavy steps.

In the past few days, Charles had indeed gotten a doctor to treat Nico’s wounds. However, the medicine applied to him wasn’t effective. Not only was the pain excruciating, but it also caused his wounds to bleed repeatedly.

He bore with it for six to seven days, but his wounds had only healed a little.

The guard walked ahead of Nico. When he noticed that Nico was far behind him due to his wounds, he immediately went over to help him.

“Thanks,” Nico said politely.

The moment they passed by the neighboring cell, Nico stopped. “There’s a girl in this cell. May I request Lord Gerhardt to allow her to leave with me?”

“Um…” The guard looked troubled.

Nico continued to explain in Epean, “I don’t think she has committed any crimes. She is involved in a transnational human trafficking case. Erihal only allows women, who are at least twenty years old, to work. She is still a month away from reaching the qualifying age. They probably didn’t want to cover her living expenses for the month, so they sent her here.”

“Let me ask the duke. If it is as you said, you should be able to take her away.”

“Okay.”

The guard took out his phone and called Gerhardt. Nico waited at the side.

In just a few minutes, Gerhardt agreed.

When the cell door opened, the girl, huddled in the corner, trembled. She buried her head in her arms, not daring to look up.

Nico went over and squatted down in front of her. He patted her arm gently and said, “It’s me.”
