Jennifer remained silent, her expression unchanged.
The assistant rolled her eyes at Walter. “You are such an arrogant and calculating man, Mr. Vissers. Are you trying to ride on Jennifer’s popularity because she has just won the Best Actress Award?”
Walter ignored her sarcasm and kept his gaze on Jennifer. “I truly am sorry, Jennifer. Please give me another chance! Without you, my life is meaningless. Will you come back to me?”
Jennifer merely smiled at Walter. When he cheated on her in the past, she had already seen through his true character.
She would never believe anything he said now.
Jennifer remembered how mercilessly Gwendolyn had dealt with the cheating man and his wicked mistress. Slowly, she retrieved an exquisite little dagger from the drawer, a memento from the drama she had just finished filming.
Seeing the dagger in her hands, Walter said worriedly, “Be careful. Don’t cut yourself. It would break my heart.”
A chill ran down Jennifer’s spine as she handed him the dagger.
She abandoned her previous innocence and said calmly, “Since you claim that life isn’t worth living without me, why don’t you prove your love by hurting yourself with this dagger? This is your way of showing that you truly love me.”
Walter’s face turned pale as he stared at her in shock.
How could this silly girl not be easily fooled this time?
He cautiously accepted the dagger from her as he was afraid of getting injured.
“Jennifer, if I really die, we’ll never be together. Are you truly willing to let that happen?”
“But if you don’t die, how can you prove that you truly love me? How will I know if you have repented?”
“Well…” Walter hesitated, pressing the blade against his wrist but not daring to make a move.
Jennifer reminded him, “A mere scratch doesn’t count. You have to sever the artery and let the blood flow profusely. Only then will I believe you.”
The thought of the pain made Walter tremble. The dagger slipped from his hand and fell to the ground.
He grasped onto Jennifer’s dress and pleaded, “Please don’t do this. Let’s go back to how things were before—no! I’ll treat you even better than before! Just give me another chance!”
Jennifer lifted her high heel and kicked him forcefully.
“Get lost! I won’t believe any of your sweet talking ever again! From now on, it’s better for you to steer clear of me. If you dare pester me, I will fight back with all my might! I’ll make sure you lose everything and live in hunger.”
Walter stood there in stunned silence, his gaze fixed on her intense expression as she uttered those harsh words.
Is she still the Jennifer I once knew?
“Jennifer, I—”
Before he could continue, Jennifer yelled, “Get lost! If you continue to bother me, I’ll report you for harassment!”
The manager and assistant had menacing expressions as they dragged Walter away.
Having regained her peace, Jennifer retrieved her phone and took a photo of the trophy to send Treyton.
Jennifer texted: Thank you, Mr. Harris, for your guidance. This is the answer sheet for this semester. Are you satisfied?
Less than a minute later, she received a reply from Treyton.
Treyton texted: You will make me even more satisfied tonight.
Jennifer instantly blushed.
This man is becoming so…
She put down her phone and continued to touch up her makeup. Treyton would come to pick her up later, so she wouldn’t be taking the bus back. Her manager and assistant had already left.
The entire lounge soon became completely quiet.
Just then, she heard the sound of a doorknob turning. When Jennifer caught a glimpse of a pair of men’s leather shoes standing not far from her, she thought Walter had come back.
She said in an irritable tone, “Walter, are you dumb or deaf?”
The man standing at the door didn’t respond and remained motionless.
Puzzled by his lack of response, Jennifer turned her head to look. It was a face she had never seen before.
