The smile on Gwendolyn’s lips turned into a frown.
She and Asher exchanged glances, the latter gulping as he waited nervously for her reply.
Gwendolyn stared at him in silence for some time before finally saying, “I accept your apology, but I don’t think I can forgive you just yet. The reason I returned to the Harris residence today is to visit Dad. So let’s not talk about other matters.”
Asher’s expression turned grim.
He had brought up Gwendolyn on his own. He knew better than anyone that this was her refusing to forgive him.
He suppressed his disappointment and flashed her a smile. “It’s okay. I’m willing to wait for the day that you forgive me.”
Gwendolyn’s gaze was locked on him, but she said nothing.
As she was about to leave the ancestral hall to look for her father, Sienna barged in from the first floor. She sounded horrified as she yelled, “Hubby! Dad… Dad flatlined!”
The terrifying news felt like thunder had struck Mount Tranquil.
Gwendolyn’s eyes were red, and tears streaked down her face as she rushed up the stairs. Asher stood up while being careful of his knees before he followed her.
Treyton, who had been in the great hall, ran upstairs after hearing Sienna shout.
“Dad!”
The few of them yelled at the top of their lungs. However, the heart of the elderly man on the man had stopped. His eyes were closed as though he was sleeping peacefully.
Kieran sat by Marcus’ bed. His usual cold exterior seemed to have broken down as his eyes reddened from crying.
Sadness filled the air of the hospital room. Gwendolyn supported herself on the door frame as her tears fell uncontrollably, her heart in immense pain.
However, the grief in her eyes was soon replaced with fury. She took out her phone and dialed Ezra’s number.
“Have everyone from Shadow Bell look for Evelyn! I want her dead!”
Kieran and Treyton were in charge of Marcus’ funeral.
As Gwendolyn was pregnant and could not attend the funeral, Cedrick hurried home to comfort her and help with the funeral in her place.
Everyone from the organization was deployed to search through the river bank for Evelyn. They even went to the nearby village and interrogated and investigated each house.
There was still no news of Evelyn after two days. It seemed as though she had disappeared into thin air.
Gwendolyn was furious. However, she was worried about the babies she was carrying. She suppressed her anger and asked Treyton to come to the villa.
“Treyton, we still can’t find Evelyn. However, I must make her pay the price for her sins and for killing Dad.”
Naturally, Treyton understood how Gwendolyn felt.
“Kiddo, what do you plan on doing? I’ll give you my full support.”
Gwendolyn’s eyes darkened when she thought of Evelyn. “Have all the news stations report her death. Say she suddenly heard the news of Dad’s death during her travels. Distraught, she accidentally fell into the river and drowned.”
Treyton was taken aback. “By doing that, she’ll never be able to return to the Harris residence even if she were alive. Is your plan to not let her live on with the name ‘Evelyn Harris?”‘
“That’s right.”
“All right. I understand. Leave it to me.”
After Marcus’ death, Asher was no longer in charge. Evelyn had also disappeared without a trace.
Gwendolyn was now the head of the Harris family, and everyone lived in harmony and peace.
Those peaceful days went by quick.
Eight months later, Gwendolyn’s belly had grown rounder. She still looked beautiful and delicate, her skin smooth and fair.
She sat on the couch while watching a movie that was projected onto a giant screen. Meanwhile, Cedrick was in the kitchen cutting some fruits for her.
Just as she was lost in the movie, she felt the baby in her stomach kick.
She breathed slowly and deeply as she tried to relieve her intense pain.
“Ceddy!” she yelled.
Cedrick put down the fruits he was washing and ran out of the kitchen. He squatted before her to check on her condition.
“Are you about to give birth?”
